It helps watching the trailer first for this Nicholas Cage film. The theme song,'Wicked Dream' is so enthralling.

This is a romantic, abstract, Lynchian Wizard of Oz. It can get heavy, apart from our lovers, everyone here is totally and abundantly cookoo, especially Lulas Mum for a start, she is the wicked witch in her head. William Dafoe's part is really haunting too, especially how he is introduced to us, the way he comes out of the dark.

It needs to be watched many times so as to understand the full essence ofthe film which can be very dark at times.

As you would expect from David Lynch, this is a brilliantly crafted, visually inventive film with more memorable lines and images than most writer-directors manage in a lifetime. However, it lacks the emotional and psychological depth of his best work, such as Mulholland Drive, Blue Velvet and Eraserhead.

It's an enjoyable ride, sure, but it doesn't add up to much, is rather too self-consciously cool and comes across as more than a little frivolous.

This is my favourite film by the Lynch master who is the best film director by miles and no one has yet or will ever come close in this medium of film.
Watch with an open heart and mind and dont come to too many conclusions, just enjoy the ride on this wonderful road movie.

This is certainly not David Lynch at his best, nor is it without flaws. It is gaudy, exaggerated in style (even by Lynch standards) and positively grotesque in some of its depictions of relationships and love.

That said, it is one of my favourite Lynch films. Why? Firstly, Dern and Ladd give exceptional (and brave) performances. Even Nicholas Cage manages to rein it in...The lurid palette of the cinematography works wonderfully with the subject matter. The ingenious (and bizarre) use of the Wizard of Oz motifs also works. Well, for me anyway... Essentially, Wild at Heart is at its finest when it resembles the kind of erotic fever dream that psychopathic criminals might have on day release from prison.

If that sounds appealing, you may just enjoy this bonkers cinematic ride...

A classic from David Lynch, though maybe not quite as strange as some of his other films have been. Both Nicolas Cage and Laura Dern are at their very best as the wild Sailor Ripley and his girlfriend Lula, with some really good supporting roles from the likes of Harry Dean Stanton, Willem Dafoe and Sheryl Lee. If you're a fan of Lynch's work and haven't seen this then I highly recommend that you give this a go, you won't be disappointed.
