5.0 out of 5 stars Cracking 'DTV' rubbish from Snipes...
Right...

Let's straighten out a few things... This is a 'Direct to Video' movie. Most people on here are reviewing this like a cinema release. Mistake.

This is a great piece of hokum for Snipes/DTV fans. Here, Wesley is a mysterious 'Painter' who goes behind enemy lines to identify targets to enable better missle strikes from the air. A Russian...

1.0 out of 5 stars Official Review - Marksman misses he's mark.....
The way I review movies is often by the feeling I have at the end, after 'the experience'. I felt nothing at the end of this. I felt like 90 odd mins had passed, and I may as well had stared at a blank screen.

The actors were hammy, unconvincing and D grade. Wesley is a great actor, but the movie drags him down. I love wesley, but he is hurting...

I love wesley, but he is hurting himself.

The top-gun ripoff air scene has 2 of the worst aircraft explosion attempts I have ever seen. You feel like the camera just got switched to a cr@ppy 90's flight sim with some pixelated rubbish explosion on screen. The in cockpit views look like 'afterburner' fromt he sega master system.

Many scenes dont make any sense why they are there. A guy is chased by a tank, escapes, then get's shot by a 'super baddy henchmen guy'. You know the one, the prized second in command, but just like Under Siege 2, this one puts up no fight against our hero. He actually takes on wesley with a knife, not realising wesley has an uzi, needless to say he became a holey man.

There are some pov attempts at underlying themes, like the reltaionship between some female commander & snipes. it's awkward & confusing, and hammy. they open with this, and end with this. It's like someone thought about the script whilst watching a football game & drinking beer. And it appears they used a similar tact on budgeting.

In my TOP 5 of worst movies ever, which is a shame, cos I love Wesley Snipes (Demolition Man, White Man Can;t Jump, US Marshalls etc).

Cheers

1.0 out of 5 stars Stay away from this movie!, 14 July 2006
By
This review is from: The Marksman [DVD] [2005] (DVD)
I don't know what Snipes does here. He says barely 5 lines in total in this movie. Then he runs and pretends to be an expert. The worse military movie I have seen to date. At the end - the credits are longer and more interesting than any other action scene in this movie. Look elsewhere - here you will not find anything that will catch your attention.

1.0 out of 5 stars Totally rubbish!!!!!!!!, 7 Mar 2006
By A Customer
This review is from: The Marksman [DVD] [2005] (DVD)
I honestly thought that this was made about a decade ago. it is so boring and is the same old cliche of a storyline - nuclear threat, some hero saves the day etc. etc. It tries to emulate other better films by twisting the storyline halfway through but it doesn't work. i rented it (thankfully) and wouldn't even be bothered to watch it again - even for free!!!
spend your money on something else like mission impossible.

Whether you have bought this DVD or just rented it, heck, even if someone gave you this film for free, you will feel cheated as the credits roll, assuming you got that far into it.

3.0 out of 5 stars The Marksman, 10 Jun 2006
This review is from: The Marksman [DVD] [2005] (DVD)
I thought that this film was really for television and not the big screen, but saying that,I disagree with most of the other reviewers in that it is a fairly good film to watch if you like military action movies.Yes,it is definitely not Wesleys best film, but he is always a good watchable actor. The supporting cast are pretty wooden and I can only feel that "top gun" got ripped off somewhere along the line, but a watchable film if you have nothing else to do.

A Russian terrorist takes over an old, disused (or is it?) nuclear power plant and, well... you can guess the rest...

Snipes doesn't exactly throw himself into it and I kinda think he's under the illusion this is a big budget cinema piece, but the decent support, good DTV production values (from Andrew Stevens Entertainment and Sony Home Pictures) and zippy plot keep things interesting all the way along...

Up there with better DTV action efforts from Steven, JCVD, Dolph & Don 'The Dragon' etc, this is worth a look for fans of 90 minute daftness...

Of course, this film is complete DTV rubbish, so adjust your expectations accordingly (ie; Saturday night with wine & pizza), but worth a laugh for most and fans will love it...

Compared to the bland 'squillion dollar' budget Die Hard 4.0, I know what I'd prefer... get it cheap and have a laugh...

2.0 out of 5 stars OK for its budget, 5 Oct 2007

This is a low budget with a script that had great promise. This action-packed military movie stars Wesley Snipes and Emma Samms. Both of these actors do an ok job with what they are given to work with. Like another reviewer said, let us be thankful they did not try for any flashbacks to tell back-story in this film.

The story line has the U.S.A. being tricked into targeting a fully functional nuclear reactor that was captured by Chechen rebels. And as we watch the missile being launched that will cause massive chaos for the region, if not the world, the Special Ops team led by Snipes figures out a way to stop the disaster from happening in an all to convenient and simple way. Still worth grabbing a bag of popcorn and checking it out from your local library.

I have never reviewed a film before for Amazon but as my feelings are so strong about this I decided to, put simply this is one of the worst films I have ever seen it has awful acting, plot and dialogue. Snipes is capable of much better, I even got the feeling that even he thought the film was rubbish. I wouldn't waste your time unless your IQ is the same as your shoe size.

A pretty average film with a fairly good amount of action. A reasonable watch if you can buy it cheap.
