3.0 out of 5 stars Should have gone to Specsavers, 15 Oct 2005
By L. Moore "Mooresby" (Reading, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I bought FIFA 06 yesterday to alleviate the boredom of my daily train commute into London. On the plus side, I can't say that theres obviously a huge difference in terms of of the graphics or playability fom the PS2 version. Lets face it, we all know what we're going to get with a new version of FIFA - its going to look great but probably have 1 or 2 areas which leave room for improvement. Having bought 06 for the PS2 & been reasonably happy with it I felt that buying the PSP version would be a pretty safe option for a quick fix of commuting footie. One of the good things is that if you've had enough playing you can go to the track listing and just listen to full length versions of the audio tracks on the game, including Doves & Oasis, which is pretty cool.
The one major drawback is that I have real difficulty in actually seeing the ball. OK - i'm 36, perhaps my eyesight isn't quite as great as it used to be, but on my last visit, the optician told me I had perfect 20-20 vision! The fact is that the ball is very small, and also very yellow - a combination which creates "challanges" from time to time during gameplay and which ultimately lets the game down. I can't say particularly that this is a FIFA problem or just a PSP footie game problem, but it is a bit of a pain.
Perhaps it's time for my eyes to be tested again....!

4.0 out of 5 stars Suprisingly Good!, 5 Dec 2005
By A Clark (London, UK) - See all my reviews
In my heart of hearts I am a Pro Evo man. I have tried the old Fifa 94 & bought Fifa 2004, only to be disgusted with the total lack of gameplay. The most important aspect of a footy console game!! I bought Pro Evo 5 on Xbox & think that it reigns supreme on the big screen. Yet, I've just got Fifa 2006 on PSP & rather suprisingly found it a very enjoyable experience. Dare I say, better than Pro Evo on PSP, of which I also own. Gameplay is good, graphics adeqaute, commentary fantastic & its always a delight to have proper names, teams & shirts from leagues ranging from English Championship to Brazilian 1st Div. With the juggling game pretty addictive, I'd recommend Fifa 2006 to any portable gamer. Just don't get carried away & dump your Pro Evo 5 just yet on PS2 or Xbox - that is the daddy of football games!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Better than I thought it would be, 19 Oct 2005
By C. Hughes "cwidifa" (London, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
After seeing the only other footy effort so far on the PSP,World Tour Soccer, with it's dodgy gameplay, and aching to get my hands on a decent PSP football game,I thought I'd give this a try - this despite my allegiance to the God of football games,Pro Evolution Soccer.
It turned out better than I thought it would - the gameplay is intuitive and feels right, although shooting is a bit off key. There is much reliance on the 'one touch' control which works well if you use it right. Attacking can be difficult,as the defences seem to work very well, and breaking away from a defender is very difficult.
Commentary is very good, and obviously, all the licences are here. The graphics are fairly good, but figures at the far side of the pitch seem particularly small despite maxing out on the camera zoom.
Overall,it's a fairly good purchase if you want a football game now for the PSP,but really I'd recommend this as a teaser before the mighty Pro Evo enters the PSP stage in November - if it plays and looks like the PS2 version, then it will definitely rule the roost!

2.0 out of 5 stars FIFA '06 - Dissapointing, 18 Oct 2005
By K W (Essex, United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
All in all I've been let down by this on the PSP. I bought the game the day it came out after being pleasantly suprised by the quality of FIFA 05 on the PS2, but this has failed to live up to scratch. The in game graphics are average at best (certainly not anywhere near the quality you'd expect given the PSP's potential) & despite there being a good 20 leagues to choose from the game quickly becomes repititve.
The thing I've found most annoying is that there is no management mode, this being the main reason I bought the game. While you can do and individual season, or an individual cup competition, you can't take control of a club and manage it for multiple years, buying and selling players, signing sponsors etc.
The only highlights are the commentry which is actually fairly good (especially when compared to the graphics) and the new "ball Juggling" task that certainly adds a bit more entertainment to an otherwise dissapointing game.

3.0 out of 5 stars Fifa 2006 PSP, 1 Jan 2006
By A Customer
Well I have two opinions on this game and my first Opinion is based on receiving it as a gift - It's just what I wanted for my train journey into london a great gift to receive... Graphics are good very playable and I will enjoy this until the new one comes out next year...

My 2nd opinion is not so cool.. I would not buy it for somebody as a gift just yet... You DON'T have Carrer Mode or Editor like on the PS2 version which is a big let down.. Just Torny modes and one season mode..

2.0 out of 5 stars Pass me the magnifying glass!, 16 Nov 2005
By A Customer
I love football games so this was my first PSP purchase,

I think I may have to take it back to the shop as the magnifying glass needed to play this game wasn't included with the game!?!?...(oh you don't get one!?!?)
The players are sooooo small and the ball...well about half the size of a pin head!
Totally impossible to track when in goalmouth action, i find my eyes frantically searching the screen mid game because I'm not sure which player is running with the ball!! hopeless!!

Ok maybe its me....I can hear all those FIFA geeks up in arms at my comments!!...but its certainly not well designed!

And to top it all off I've played for about 2 hours now and haven't managed to score one single goal!!! (mainly because I can't see the ball!)

Here's hoping Pro Evolution doesn't need a microscope to view the action!!

2.0 out of 5 stars Get me a magnifying glass..., 23 Nov 2005
By BoogieWoogie (Hebburn, Tyne and Wear United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
2 stars for good graphics, music and variety. As for the problems, where to start?..... I can honestly say this is the most frustrating game I have EVER played. I consider myself to be a fairly calm person but this game really tested my patience - how my psp is still in one piece I do not know.

For starters the ball is impossible to see, especially when its yellow. It is ridiculously hard to get the ball off the opposition even on the easiest difficulty level. Far too often you will find yourself running after them in circles, often back to their own goal line. It's like they have an invisible shield around them and no matter what you do you can't get near the ball, yet they will take the ball off you with ease.

The intelligence of the players is laughable. Try passing to a forward running at goal and the computer passes it back to a defender, or worse still, the other team. The through ball button might aswell not be there as the results are disastrous. A through ball will either go out of play or straight to the other team. Watching the actions of the other team when they get the ball is often laughable.

There is a horrendous delay between you pressing a button and the player kicking the ball. Hit the pass button and by time your player has kicked it the ball has been taken off him. When you successfully kick the ball the other players seem to grow huge limbs and block nearly every shot and too many passes.

Finally it's too hard to score. If you get past the blockade of defenders and get a shot in that isn't blocked, either the goalkeeper catches the ball or it goes miles wide. Pure luck. Oh, and the free kicks are a joke too.

Save your money, get anything else, unless you're a die hard fifa fan.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not bad at all!, 22 Nov 2005
Well after reading the other reviews i didn't really know what to expect of the game? Graphics to small to see..... no career mode...
Well after regular playing i can say that the graphics are great, and the game play is excellent- if you have bad eye sight then its tough luck really - it is easy to follow, but i have yet to find aftertouch on free kicks (if there is any function).
The players look great, commentry is good, and the stadiums are accurate, and the sound tracks aren't bad either.
You can transfer all your favourite players into your team without a transfer fee (rooney and shevchenko as Nott'm Forest strikers! lol)
The career mode does only last 1 season though and the reward points are not very rewarding for the hard work.
The juggling mode is a nice little addition to the game & uses the full use of the width of the psp screen to it's advanage.

Overall it is a great game but there is plenty of room for improvement.
Lets hope we can get a propper management mode and possibly a create a player mode in future versions.

Nice work though

3.0 out of 5 stars Fifa 06 - Something missing!, 22 Oct 2005
Please help me. Am I alone on this one. I bought this game a week earlier to the official release date and so had a real chance to play it and it seems to be missing a few important bits that they boast about on the description. For instance there is:
- NO Career Mode (only play one season!)
- NO International Teams which begs the road to World Cup description that keeps being branded with this
- NO Create Player
- Limited music

Whats the reason? I was led to believe that the PSP with the UMD was meant to be almost as good as the PS2.
This game has some real plus points such as Graphics, Sound and Gameplay (this is argueble though) but when you look at what the game has in all other formats I feel a little robbed.
My advice is buy it in another format if you have the choice.

4.0 out of 5 stars FIFA ALMOST ........ GOOD!, 26 Jan 2006
By A Customer
Well every time a new fifa is released every year i have the same expectations, dull and only improved as it comes for the rosters of the teams, but when it comes down to PSP version then i had to be pretty careful,ok let`s face it PRO EVO SOCCER 5 is the true king because of it`s real lifelike gameplay, but exactly after PES 5 it is FIFA 06,which is a very very very nice footie sim for our beloved PSP!Where to begin ,how about to begin with the fact that the FIFA 06 PSP version has ALL the stadiums that FIFA 06 has on PS2,PC etc!,all the teams, plus a mini game with juggling! The gameplay is vastly improved,to score now a goal is very difficult compared to the previous FIFA games,it has all the nice presentation, even and the commentary! The only reason that i am not giving FIFA 06 a perfect 5 stars is the graphics, the kits if you look carefully they looking like they are washed out or something or they don`t have the correct colors!,but this is THE ONLY glitch i could spot! Now as far the game modes of FIFA 06 it has everything you could hope for,SEASON,TOURNAMENT,CHALLENGES,CUP,everything and it also has the ability to create your own tournament with your own teams and groups,so that means you can create the ch.league groups since all the teams that competed the group phase they are all included in FIFA 06 all but one(Artmedia Bratislava)but anyway.FIFA 06 in PSP is immediate replacement of PRO EVOLUTION SOCCER 5,that means if you are a FIFA fan go and and get it!!!
