5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous music for every occasion, especially the cold, wet, dark months..., 1 Nov 2012
This review is from: Mozart: 250th Anniversary Edition, Chamber Works (Audio CD)
In fact there are 15 CDs in the box as decribed above, not 16 as the gentleman has stated in his comment. By the way I agree to some extent with his position. I think this is abox set worth to be considered a contender among the great chamber music boxes. Acts like Alban Berg Quartet, Nikolaus Harnoncourt and the Consentus Musicus Wien, Toon Koopman are superb interpreters of classical music. And Mozart like Bach, Beethoven, Tchaikovskij, Rachmaninov, Haydn, Schubert, Schumann, Brahms, Chopin, Mahler, Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, Dvorak, Smetana and the Beatles... are the everlasting poets of old christian and jewish Europe, the most shiningly delivering sources of musical beauty that keeps on flooding the whole world. Ex occidente looks and sound great!!! Great box set.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is how Box Sets should be done!, 26 Mar 2010
This review is from: Mozart: 250th Anniversary Edition, Chamber Works (Audio CD)
This is how Box Sets should be done!

Recently I have bought a couple of box sets by the major labels that have left me feeling short changed. But not this one!

The performances of the music here are excellent, but the whole package matters, and it does not disappoint. The set comes in a good sturdy box. The 16 CDs are in similar study slipcases, with beautiful artwork on the front. There and full track listings and artist info on each one, so no rummaging in the booklet to find what is on the discs. The booklet has not been scrimped on. All the track listing information is in it as well as on the individual CD slipcases. Then there are 19 pages of information on the music. Yes, you actually get some decent historical background and information on each work in this set. No corners cut here.

To the Music. What you get here is as good survey of the mature Mozart. 7 Piano Trios, 2 Piano Quartets, 10 String Quartets, the famous Horn and Clarinet Quintets. There are also 8 CDs of Serenades and Divertimenti, including Eine Kleine Nachtmusic, The Musical Joke, and the Grand Partita. The Musical Joke is strangely rare on current CD issues, so is a valuable inclusion. The Grand Partita is an inventive, formidable almost 50 minute long work that deserves to be known better.

The performances are of a consistently high standard. Buy this and you are in for many hours of pleasant listening, interspered no doubt, with the pleasure of a good number of new musical discoveries.

Warners Mozart 250th Anniversary Edition Box Sets aren't the cheapest ones around, but they are among the best, and with the quality on offer here, they are absolute bargains.
