5.0 out of 5 stars Thanks for the Memories!, 18 Sep 2006

This review is from: Adventures of Pete & Pete: Season 2 [DVD] [1993] [US Import] [NTSC] (DVD)
I have just finished watching this series and all the memories came flooding back! I had forgotten what great guest stars they have in Pete & Pete, and this one's even better than the first; Iggy Pop,Steve Buscemi,Janeane Garofalo and LL Cool J just appear out of nowhere, and Michelle Tratchenberg is so small, but they saw her potential.

Every story is excellent; I just wish there was a children's programme today as consistently GOOD!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great second season!, 1 Dec 2005
This review is from: Adventures of Pete & Pete: Season 2 [DVD] [1993] [US Import] [NTSC] (DVD)
This was the best season of Pete and Pete, consistently funny storylines and excellent directing, if you haven't seen the series this would be the one to buy. Enjoy!

This review is from: Adventures of Pete & Pete: Season 2 [DVD] [1993] [US Import] [NTSC] (DVD)
The Adventures of Pete and Pete is a rather surreal and innovative children's comedy. This 2 DVD set of season two follows on in much the same vein as season one. It follows on exactly from season one, with the two brothers, Big Pete [aged 15] and Little Pete [aged 10], still living in a peaceful suburban neighbourhood called Wellsville, USA [actually Leonia/Cranford, New Jersey]. The episodes show a very strange and bewildering world as seen through the eyes of two young boys. This cult series also features their embarrassing dad, the metal plate in their mom's head, Artie the spandex-wearing super-hero, and Petunia - little Pete's tattoo.

The series still goes out of it's way to be slightly oddball - for example in the episode 'The Call' little Pete finally decides to answer a pay phone in the town that has been ringing for the last 27 years. The rest of the townspeople have been ignoring it, fearing that the phone is haunted. This DVD set has all thirteen episodes from the second series, plus a few of the original `shorts' that sparked this award winning programme, audio commentary from the creators and cast, and the Pete & Pete special 'Space, Geeks and Johny Unitas'. There are also a few numbers from the featured band Polaris. As before the episodes are all wittily narrated by big Pete (and unlike `The wonder years' his thoughts retain a fresh youngster's somewhat bemused perspective).

My son (10) and daughter (12) have loved watching these episodes many times, and even mum and dad have found them very entertaining. `'Halloweenie' seems to be a particular favourite with our kids, with Iggy Pop as the guest star (it is rumoured that this was the last episode filmed in Leonia, NJ. They made such a mess Leonia told the show to move out. After this it was filmed in Cranford, New Jersey). Other episodes include 'The big quiet', `Inspector 34', `Grounded for life', 'X=Why?' and 'On golden Pete'.

A cut above the average kiddies sitcom that deservedly won a Cable Ace Award for Outstanding Children's Series. Season one is essential pre-viewing (sadly the final season 3 hasn't been released yet). For girls also try the similar vintage 'Clarissa explains it all, series one', or for braver boys 'Eerie Indiana'. Plus don't forget UK home-grown child sitcom classics like 'The worst witch' and 'My parents are aliens'.

The last season [three] of Pete and Pete was to be released in 2006, but it has now been postponed indefiniately [seemingly owing to royalty issues between Nick and Viacom]. Good news though is that reruns of the show are scheduled to return to TeenNick in October 2011.

MT appears in 8 episodes of season 2. A fan site mentions this as her earliest credited role.

I find that a lot of the themes point to later works with her.

Season 3 appears to still be unavailable at June 2008. I would hope to obtain that mostly for MT.
