Im not going to say this is the best album your every going to hear, or best band ever because everyone has their own different tastes, but as far as metal is concered Iced earth are up there with the greats. Iced earth have released 11 albums and i have to say this is one of the best they have done.

kicking the album off with a song called "burning times" really gets you in the mood for whats to come on the album. a nice steady paced song, starting off with a catchy guitar riff and heavy bass line, altho during the middle of the song it does get a bit repetitive, repeating the chorus of lyrics. but i still rate this song quite high

Second song on the album is "Melancholy (Holy Martyr)" and this is a dramatic change in in the way the first song was done (alot more gentle to start with) but once you get 1 minuet into the song you realize why iced earth are a reconised band. from the gentle tune you get the heavy riff come slamming in picking the pace of the song right up.

next on the album is "diciples of the lie" this is where you start to see the ture shape of the album the pace starts getting faster the lyrics are almost "whiney" but so good. they make it go with the instruments so well.

Then we have "Watching Over Me" this song is almost depressing. quite alot like Melancholy with they soft to hard transition but the lyrics are quite down (about how he his best friend died and is now watching over him)

there are 13 songs in total on the album, i have only talked the first 4 but as an over all album i give it the thumbs up only 1 or 2 let the album down but usually alot of bands only have 1 or 2 "Amazing" songs on an album, this band is full of them. here is a list of whats on the album with a rating of each song:

1. Burning Times (4/5)

2. Melancholy(Holy Martyr)(5/5)

3. Diciples Of The Lie (5/5)

4. Watching Over Me (4/5)

5. Stand Alone (3/5)

6. Consequences (4/5)

7. My Own Saviour (4/5)

8. Reaping Stone (5/5)

9. 1776 (4/5)

10. Blessed Are You (5/5)

11. Prophecy (4/5)

12. Birth Of The Wicked (5/5)

13. The Comming Curse (5/5)

Revisiting an album, that's so essential, it needs no introduction, that in all honesty is a rare thing, but when it comes to Iced Earth's 1998 breakthrough record 'Something Wicked This Way Comes' the album speaks for itself!

Finding an album of this quality today has been few and far between, nothing in music so far has impacted me as much as IE did all those years ago.

The songwriting crafted here is immense and with out a doubt Rhythm Guitarist Jon Schaffer's best work, from the opening riffs of 'Burning Times', to the beautifull charge of instrumental '1776' to the album closing epic (Something Wicked Trilogy) 'Prophecy', 'Birth of the Wicked' and 'The Coming Curse', which gave birth to IE's now renowned figure head 'Set Abominae'.

This is truly a landmark album and one which has gotten better over time, and still sounds as fresh and immense as it did when I discovered it.

Iced Earth have stayed true to their guns - As the nu-metal genre ruled the late 90's, Iced Earth proudly crafted this beautiful, epic, heavy metal delight.

This is truly an essential peice of metal history.
You must own or at least hear this album... its that damn goood!

I've only heard the odd track from this band in the past and to tell the truth they've been a bit hit and miss but by checking various reviews I kept hearing this release being praised as their best work so I bought it blind and was pleasantly surprised as I could not find one weak track on the whole album. Anyone wanting an introduction to Iced Earth go no further.

Without doubt the pinnacle of Jon's writing career (save the Gettysburg trilogy, and possibly Framing Armageddon).
Anyway, no need to go into detail here. If you're reading this you know what Jon is capable of.
All I am going to say is that if you don't have this album/CD in your metal collection, then your collection just isn't metal enough.
Nuff said.

what an album by Iced Earth! Theres Reign In Blood Master Of Puppets Number Of The Beast Blessed Are The Sick and now theres Something Wicked This Way Comes
each track is different from each other for example the ferocity of Burning Times to the mellowness of Watching Over Me
but it is the Something Wicked Trilogy which shakes you to the core. the 13th track The Coming Curse comes in like a jackhammer watch out for the monk chants during the bridge and end of the song it will give you goosebumps. Jon Schaffer's songwriting is at its most excellent. Matthew Barlow is at his screaming growling melodic best!
the line up are
Jon Schaffer - Rhythm Guitar, Vocals
Matthew Barlow - Lead Vocals
Randall Shawver - Lead Guitar
Dave Abell - Bass Guitar
Mark Prator - Drums
think of this band as an American version of Iron Maiden but way heavier

Simply the best album by Iced Earth and you must own it. It has everything, it goes from a heavy, fast song to a slow yet brilliant song and continues like that! And the 1776 instumental is so brilliant aswell! The Something Wicked Trilogy is a masterpiece, you must own this CD!
