Poor recording quality completely spoils this
on 20 December 2011
I have another "Carols from King's" which I absolutely love. This, however, is a very poor second best, owing to the poor recording quality. Instead of the crisp, clear carols you expect, the whole CD is awash with so much echo that it really spoils it. It sounds as if they stuck a mike at the back of the cathedral and that was it. If you want clear, crisp carols that you can enjoy sitting and listening to round the tree with a mulled wine and a mince pie, (as opposed to having on as background muzak) then don't buy this one. In fact, even as background muzak it disappoints - really it is just a watery dirge of slow carols. Having once sung in a choir myself directed by Sir David W, I can vouch for the insistence on clarity that he brings to his choral performances, and this recording simply annihilates that clarity. Why am I giving it 2 stars? Put it down to Christmas spirit!
