5.0 out of 5 stars AFX - Hangable Auto Bulb:, 27 Nov. 2005
This review is from: Hangable Auto Bulb (Audio CD)
For those of us who didn't catch the first ltd edition pressings of HAB EP 1 and 2, warp have kindly released them in a lovely package, made nicely by the designers republic.
The music it's self is a beautiful throw back to the days of the Richard D James (RDJ) album and to a lesser extent, I Care Because You Do (ICBYD). The album even contains some of the same drum loops used in DRJ and ICBYD.
Many of the tracks contain samples, unlike much of his later work, which is mostly purely instruMENTAL. For me the best tracks on the album have to be Laughable Butane Bob, Custodian Discount and Arched Maid Via RDJ, because of their complexity, but also the stange "hummability" that these tracks have.
All in all, this is a great starting point for anyone confused about where to start in electronica, but also a fantastic investment for those hardened fans who prehaps dont fancy the £50 per EP price often seen on eBay.
If In Doubt, Buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really enjoyed this one, 17 Jun. 2013
This review is from: Hangable Auto Bulb (Audio CD)
Hangable Auto Bulb features some brilliant tracks, RDJ really is a clever man. He uses homemade/modified analogue synths giving him a very unique sound pallet. Laughable Butane Bob is one of my all time favourites, Children talking and Every day use sound sampled from and old BBC project called "Children Talking" which I found to be very humorous and enjoyable to listen to. "Bit" is a strange track at just 6 seconds. It wouldn't surprise me if the sound waves can be made into an image through the use of software, Richard D James has been known to do such clever things. But I would definitely recommend you listen to this album, it's smashing!

Verified Purchase(What is this?)

not aphex's best work by far but is an enjoyable listen and you can almost hear him 'experimenting' with techniques which he later uses on the RDJ album. nice addition to my aphex collection and a must-have for any aphex twin fan who either prefers CD or does not own a record player

5.0 out of 5 stars True quality, 21 Feb. 2010

Had this for a while, gave it a listen to, dissmissed it as an off work, came back to it, can't stop listening to it.
I skip a couple of tracks but as with other work by a "master" this really stands up to repeated listening, the true acid test of time.
Lively, fast, powerful, original.
I never look at the "names" of the movements, but 2,3 and the last one make a powerful group.
True quality, you will hear this music echo through adverts and TV backgrounds for years.
