5.0 out of 5 stars Must own for any Music fan, 5 April 2013
This review is from: Welcome To Japan [DVD] [2005] (DVD)
I only stumbled accross this recently and what a great show. Harvey sounds better live than on the records. I feel lucky to have seen this band in 2007 and it still rates as one of my favorite shows i've been to. This dvd is from when they were at their peak and is a must for any fan of this dearly missed band.

At a time when the band hit their peak before falling down in every sense.

Concert is well filmed,Great sound,Great atmosphere.

I prefer to remember them for these times and what a great band they were at this point in time.

Live performances slipped during the later years and this gig seems a world apart from the last shows they played

A must purchase for any fan of The Music or Rock music in general

5.0 out of 5 stars Great show, 5 Feb 2012

I have to agree with the above reviewer. The set list is great and the performance is fantastic. The sound is excellent as well and Harvey's vocals sound really strong. If you're a fan of the band this is worth getting.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best live DVDs in history., 19 Aug 2011
This review is from: Welcome To Japan [DVD] [2005] (DVD)
I was already a pretty big fan of The Music by the time I decided to purchase this performance on DVD, but when I popped that sucker in and watched the whole thing start to finish my views on them drastically changed from good to GREAT. Not only do they perform the perfect blend of songs from their first two albums but they do so in a way that sounds even more fantastic that their studio counterparts! Also, it sounds top notch. It's very rare in my experience to come across a concert on disc that sounds so crisp and perfectly captured. This is a MUST HAVE for any fan of this late great group. However, if you were a fan of the first DVD release "Live at the Blank Canvas" this may not appeal to you. Canvas was gritty, to the point and raw in terms of audio production and camera work, whereas Japan sounds ready to fill a stadium with near flawless vocal performances and post production mixing. In my opinion they really stepped up their game on this one. Some might think the opposite, though. Songs like "The Truth Is No Words" and "The People", usual live favorite thrashers, are instead played quite slower and in a more relaxed manner than before, although there are high energy rockers to be found in "Cessation" and "I Need Love". That's not to say there aren't truly beautiful lighters in the air moments either. Quite possibly the shows key moment is the classic "Getaway", which hits a nerve like no other with its spine chilling and emotional presentation, while "Into the Night" sucks you in with its simple arrangement and Robert Harvey's gorgeous live vocal (which far surpasses the recorded verson). To sum it up, you need to own both DVDs but this one especially since it displays maturity and a natural progression of sound dynamics and overall performance.

Awsome live as always but the audience is a bit flat at times.
Shame they split.
