5.0 out of 5 stars Roachford at his very very best, 27 April 2006

Superb. Roachford at his very very best. A lot of albums are growers, i.e. you need to listen to it a few times before you really get into it. Not this one. I loved it from the first time I heard it. Roachford is on the top his form and his awesome voice just gets better and better. It's a deeply soulful, emotional, atmospheric album and has a mixture of uplifting, spiritual, beautiful and heartbreaking songs as usual. As for music styles there's everything in there, R & B, Pop, Soul, Funk, Chillout, and Jazz with killer guitar and piano thrown in. So if you want some hand clapping, finger clicking, hip swinging stuff buy it. If you liked Permanent Shade of Blue and Feel you'll love this.

5.0 out of 5 stars An album of sublime maturity, 3 April 2006
Having followed Roachford from his breakthrough in the mid-1980s, its immediately apparent from listening to this album that both his songwriting and musicianship have matured like a fine wine. Criminally under-rated over the years, the mainstream music market tends to associate Roachford with Cuddly Toy and little else. But his carefully crafted body of work speaks for itself and Word of Mouth is arguably his finest album to date. River of Love is an obvious standout, but there are so many tracks to relish that singling anything out in particular would do the rest of the album a disservice. Because this is a recording to treasure by one of the UK's most talented yet shamefully ignored artists.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Album from A Talented, but underrated Soul-man, 28 April 2007

This is another album from the hugely talented Andrew Roachford.I have all of his albums and have followed his work religiously since he first broke onto the scene back in the late 1980's.As other people have said, he is most famous for his breakthrough single, Cuddly Toy, from his self-titled first album. Since then he really hasn't had the kind of recognition he deserves - this man has one of the best voices you will ever hear, and i have had the privilege of going to see him in concert. On stage he is utterly awesome. His voice is as good live, as on his Cd's and there aren't many artists who i can honestly say are that good. He even jumped into the crowd and got people to sing along with him!

I am straying from the subject in hand though. This album follows on from Roachford, Get Ready!, Permanent Shade of Blue, Feel, and Heart of the Matter (not including his hits collections). So he has a good back catalogue of work now!

This album sits up there with the best of his albums. I personally believe that Permanent Shade of Blue is his best - the songs are quite 'poppy' with some real soul mixed in there too. But this album is not far behind it in my opinion. I bought it from Amazon and haven't had chance to play it until i had a long car journey to make. I was a bit nervous about playing this, as i wasn't a huge fan of Heart of the Matter (his last album) - i always get nervous about playing a Roachford album as i am so excited about listening to anything by him, and probably expect too much from him!

This album is excellent. From the moment i put it in the cd player, i thought that this was a great piece of work. I have played it non-stop for the last five hours and I can honestly say it is brilliant!Unlike some his others that 'grow' on you, this one got me straight away and the first half of the album in particular has some fantastic tracks that i have played over and over again. For me, I love River of Love,Open Road,Tomorrow to name just a small snippet of the great songs within this cd.

Roachford's voice is as fantastic as it ever was; and the music, although not totally spectacular really shows off his song writing and vocal skill.

If you loved any one of the previous Roachford albums then i would definitely recommend this - it will make you want to revisit all his works again, and remind you why you fell in love with his voice. If you like anything with a bit of soul, some good lyrics, cool music and something with some care and love invested in it, then this is an album for you! It is great in the car..........trust me on this!

This in my view is Roachford's second best album, behind Permanent Shade of Blue, and it is not far behind it too. Both stand out as albums you can put on and chill out to, and play from start to finish without having to skip any tracks - and not many albums do that these days.

My final word is a bit of a rant. Not at Roachford himself, but at the music industry. This guy should be at the forefront of British soul - and should be given more publicity and more airtime. I would love to see him get time on television, or at bigger festivals. If he was American, he would be an international superstar. We really need to back this guy and get his music out there for more people to enjoy. Also, i would recommend seeing him live - don't wait!If you see him on tour, get tickets and be at the front!I would pay to see him over and over - he really is THAT good live.

Buy this with a clear conscience - it is a great album by a master of his trade.

If you are new to Roachford, give this a whirl and Permanent Shade of Blue.

If you are a fan of Roachford and have followed him - just get on with it and buy it!He hasn't let you down with this latest offering.

4.0 out of 5 stars Still doing his own thing, 12 Jan. 2006

What I love about Roachford is that the direction his music takes is always a creative one. 'Word of Mouth' is musically rich and also timeless, the melodies are beautifully crafted.
Whereas Roachford's previous album 'Heart of the Matter, vol 1' was contemplative, 'Word of Mouth' is rejoiceful.
Standout tracks include: 'River of Love' and 'Crazy Love'.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Good, 3 Mar. 2010

I recently rediscovered Roachford- having only had the album "Roachford", and feeling very disillusioned with the music industry these days (getting old!), I wondered if his other stuff was any good. Encouraged by the reviews here I bought it and have to say I'm impressed.

Nothing really stands out and grabs me, they're simply very, very good songs and I could quite happily listen to it day-in, day-out, unlike other artists whose albums have a somewhat short shelf-life.

Apologies for being lazy and copying this review to the other album of his I got- I justhappen to feel the same about them both :-)
