I love almost everything Cary Grant has been in and so was excited to see this lessar known, shorter film starring him opposite Loretta Young. I was not disappointed. The story itself was an interesting concept and I thought Young's performance as a bad mother blackmailing a bemused Cary Grant for money fitted her perfectly. Watching this film definately makes me want to look at Loretta Young's back catalogue to see what other delights she has starred in as I will now be very keen to watch them!

An unmarried mother (Loretta Young) has a young, nine-year-old son whom she gloats upon. The lad is always up to mischief which the mother defends as a preparation for life, and in which she holds a strong point in this reviewer's opinion. (All very well to teach children at school impeccable morals when in the real, ugly world it's number ONE who succeeds - materially, at any rate!)

Following a minor road accident to the boy the mother seeks to capitalize on the situation by making an exaggerate claim and suing the culprit, an employee of Grant who then steps in to offer the mother full compensation and more. The "more" leads to the boy being sensibly adopted by Grant and his wife, a childless couple. What ensues is all of topsy-turvy if nothing else, but heartening and compassionate, and something of a tonic for this modern world of ours.

Film quality rather coarse-grained in close-ups, but otherwise god all-round reproduction. Excellent value.

NOT to be confused with that other film of the same title. Born to Be Bad [DVD] [1950]

For me Cary Grant is a great great actor always well in his parts. A real gentleman, always pleasant to see in his numerous pictures.

I really enjoyed this film. I think it has a brilliant storyline and a lot happens in 59 minutes. I'm a big fan of Cary and his charming co star, Loretta Young. Loretta plays a young, unmarried mother of a 7 year old tearaway, Mickey. Cary is rich and married but his wife is unable to conceive. They take in Mickey much to the dissmay of Loretta...will she get Mickey back or let him have the life she could never give him....?

This 59 minute film may introduce Cary Grant to film audiences at the time, but there is nothing significant about it and I can see why it has been unavailable for so many decades. There is a reason for that because it does not stand the test of time.

I am glad that I purchased this movie - always keen to add to my Cary Grant collection. However, I don't envisage this one being one to watch again and again. It was such a short film too - perhaps that's the problem - trying to squeeze so many aspects into a short space of time?
