5.0 out of 5 stars A good musical - worth a listen
It's nice to see this CD finally re-mastered and reissued. The original CD has long been deleted and copies have been changing hands for surprisingly high prices (up to £200!) on e-bay. This new issue contains all the songs contained on the original LP (my copy being mono and very crackly) and from the EP (ditto), which had three more tracks for which the LP had no...

3.0 out of 5 stars WW2 reproduced on stage
As a brash young Australian, I saw this "musical" in the early 1960s. Unlike the American WW2 shows such as South Pacific, this one is centred on the civil population in war, and does it wonderfully. Features a song specially written for and sung by Vera Lynn in the manner of her WW2 hits. AS must for all genuine lovers of the musical genre.

This review is from: Lionel Bart's Blitz! (Audio CD)
Excellent value, promptly delivered, but the seller sent the CD in a soft envelope, with the result that the jewel case was badly cracked on arrival, promptly fell apart - and couldn't be put together again.

2.0 out of 5 stars Lukewarm Blitz, 11 Jun. 2009
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Lionel Bart's Blitz! (Audio CD)
I'd never even heard of Blitz until recently. I bought the CD because our local Am Dram is doing this show in the autumn. It doesn't sound very interesting or testing for a chorus member like me - no decent set piece songs and everything in unison - boring. The solos also won't send you home humming a lovely tune. The leading lady in this recording sounds like a female Fagin cum Shylock. Did they really sound that 'Jewish' in 1940's London?

I rate Blitz as barely second rank; it's no wonder it's not performed often.
