5.0 out of 5 stars STATIC X - "Start a War"; A very complete album., 24 Jan 2006
This review is from: Start A War (Audio CD)
This is a very complete album, the last time I heard an album this complete was "By the way" from the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
What do I mean by complete......?, The running order is well chosen, tracks dovetail into each other so beautifully, and each
tracks' sound is so consistent with the others.
This album could transfer seemlessly into a "live" set, not many
whole albums are capable of doing this, and that gig I would love to attend....that's what I mean by complete!
These Guys have really thought this album through, no filler tracks, every song has something to offer.
What is most impressive is that most of the tracks have 3 or 4
sections that become one song with ease, showing a maturity of
songwriting.
Like a good book, you don't wanna put it down!!
"Start a war" (quite possibly!) grips you in a frenetic musical vice, no need to flick from track to track to find a couple of good ones, you don't flick through a great book do you?, cover to cover stuff yeah? - this album is 1st track to last track, no messin'.
Great lyrics (all song lyrics are in the 10 page booklet), potent music with great drum beats, and an assured "swaggering"
performance of each song.
Static X are in control..........very much in control!!
Are your ears ready?!, mine are telling me to play it again!

5.0 out of 5 stars A return to Wisconsin Death Trip, 23 July 2006

This album is at last a return to the sound they had in Wisconsin. The guitar is the dominant sound throughout the album, with an incredible furious blast from all the songs. My personal favourite has to be Skinnyman, with it's haunting and melodic sound. The heaviest? Has to be I'm the one.

4.0 out of 5 stars excellent yet again, 20 April 2006

start a war is the fourth studio album and had the tough job of following on from the brilliant shadowzone, does it better shadowzone, sadly no,but that doesnt take away from the fact that start a war is a cracking album, filled with the venomous roars and the melodic chorus' that make up the static x sound, what we have here is 13 songs that sit comfortably together and the riffs and the industrial tinges are as evident as ever, some of the best songs include dirthouse, start a war and skinnyman.they are all good in truth, the songwriting is of the highest standards and some thought that when tripp left the band that they would lose something and that has not proved the case so all is good in the static x world,i have yet to see them live and was close as they pulled out of download 2004 and i know they would have a crowd begging for more, excellent and pretty unique band

4.0 out of 5 stars Diffrent yet still static-x, 14 Jun 2005
This review is from: Start A War (Audio CD)
Well first of all if you have loved every static-x album ,even shadow zone, then you will Like this album.
Wayne has a new type of scream and a diffrent yet still static-x-like sound, this album is a more angry yet laid back album, song like "dirthouse" and "set it off" are good examples. But they still have those Heavy, fast, electronic songs on this album, "start a war" "Pieces" and "Im the One" show off this clearly.
The Most wierdest songs on this album would be "I want to F*cking Break it" and "Otsego Amigo", Yet these songs are my favorite songs on this album because there Diffrent in a good Static-x way.
I would say this album is No "Wisconsin Death trip", But it matches the power of "Machine" and Blows "Shadow zone" out of the water. This is a solid album and after the first listen it Will grow more and more on you,and if you like instrumental Techno style songs then "brainfog" will Blow your mind.
