3.0 out of 5 stars Conventional and padded out giallo
The most memorable thing about giallo The Case of the Scorpion's Tail is the trailer, which shamelessly compares itself to other `masterpieces on violence' such as The Golem, Battleship Potemkin and M. After a millionaire is mysteriously killed in a plane crash, his wife takes out $1 Million dollars on his life insurance, but with her been murdered days after collecting the money and with numerous parties who were all interested in her money are killed off one by one its down to insurance investigator Peter Lynch (George Hilton) and french news reporter Cléo Dupont (Anita Strindberg) to try and find out who is the killer.

This is a top rate Giallo, with a good story and enough twists and turns to keep the viewer interested. The director is Sergio Martino who in my opinion was the best Giallo director other than Dario Argento, here he keeps things going at a fast pace and theres quite a few gory murder scenes, the most notable been were a man has a broken glass bottle shuved in his eye (ouch!)

George Hilton is good in the lead role as is the beautiful Anita Strindberg, theres also good supporting roles from Luigi Pistilli and Alberto De Mendoza. The score by Bruno Nicoli is amazing and sounds just like something Ennio Morricone would make.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superior Giallo, 26 Aug 2013
This review is from: Case of the Scorpions Tail [DVD] [Region 1] [US Import] [NTSC] (DVD)
I've always been a massive fan of Sergio Martino's Case of the Scorpions Tail so just thought I'd review it now. The film begins with a young woman who discovers her older husband has just died in a mysterious plane crash. She is in line to inherit his fortune but soon after is stalked and threatened. An investigator also comes on the scene but it's not long before the bodies start to pile up..
I own both the German hardbox and this No Shame edition and the No Shame one is the better of the two. The transfer is great and it also has the option to watch with English Language as well as subtitles (The German version didn't have the English dubbed option). Also the special features are better on the No Shame disc that's unfortunately oop now,but snap it up quickly if you come by it!
The film itself is a fantastic Giallo. It moves at a fast pace and is suspenseful and stylishly directed. Story wise I'd say it doesn't quite have the depth of Martino's other Gialli but it's still good and has some cool twists in it. A real entertaining watch all the way through with a great score by Bruno Nicolai and tense bloody violent set piece murders. The cast is impressive too including George Hilton and Luigi Pistilli and regular Giallo babes Evelyn Stewart&Anita Strindberg. Unfortunately no Edwige Fenech here but I guess you can't have everything! Not Martino's best Giallo but it's still a classic of the genre in my opinion.

The most memorable thing about giallo The Case of the Scorpion's Tail is the trailer, which shamelessly compares itself to other `masterpieces on violence' such as The Golem, Battleship Potemkin and M. The film itself is fairly conventional. Director Sergio Martino admits that he padded out the first half after the film's running time came up short, and it shows: it's not until the halfway point that the film gets much in the way of energy. The Scope location photography in London and Greece is attractive and there's some amusement to be had from the terrible model work in a plane explosion or a sunglass wearing villain called Omar who looks like a hung over Charlton Heston in Touch of Evil after being dragged through a thorn bush, but overall the film is nothing to write home about.

No complaints about NoShame's Region 1 NTSC DVD presentation, which offers both Italian and dubbed English language soundtrack options, a retrospective featurette, brief stills and poster gallery and that wildly over the top trailer.
