This review is from: Orange and Blue (Audio CD)
This is by far my most favorite album by Al DiMeola. It's a nice blend of acoustic and electric guitar and sonicly stunning . Both for diehard fans and newcommers to DiMeolo a real treat. There are also some realy nice vocals on this album, especially the track featuring Noa.

'Orange and Blue' is one of those albums rather similar to previous DiMeola efforts like the beautiful 'Cielo E Terra' and 'Soaring Through a Dream' where acoustic guitar textures, vocal harmonies and restraint in the speedy licks department pay off handsomely. The album has an easy flow and some very pretty melodies to ease the ear and can be enjoyed as the sort of disc you might want to listen to after a hard day at the salt mine. The overall flavour is Brazilian / Argentinian. The playing in all areas is very considered and the level of composition consistently very high. Some reviewers have likened Al's approach here to that of Pat Metheny and it is a fair point. However, the album retains enough of this great guitarists fire and creative identity to let you know that this music could have been produced by none other then by Al DiMeola .

If you are looking for high octane fusion look elsewhere. If you like the sound of ballad orientated material such as the lovely 'This Way Before' and the haunting guitar /piano intro to 'If We Meet Again Part One',then this album deserves a place in your home. Recommended.

A wide variety of moods, all beautifully written and skillfully played, it's difficult not to like this album.

AL Di Meola, great guitarist, great album, excellent sounding guitar. I think it's a Paul Reed Smith made for Al.
