5.0 out of 5 stars Ray Wilson Live
Having had the pleasure of seeing Ray live three times this album recreates the magic of the shows every time.

The atmosphere of the CD is fantastic and despite it being recorded at a small intimate gig the quality of the set could easily have been performed in a stadium and Ray's voice is faultless throughout.

I wouldn't highlight and tracks that...

3.0 out of 5 stars Ray shows he's more than just an ex-Genesis singer....
This album shows one thing: to have great music, you've got to have great songs and a great voice.
Listen to Ray on any of the Genesis songs on this album, on 'In the Air Tonight", "Biko" or even "Inside" and you'll realise what Tony Banks and Mike Rutherford saw in him when they hired him to front Genesis. Listen to Ray sing shocking songs...

5.0 out of 5 stars Ray Wilson Live, 6 July 2011

Having had the pleasure of seeing Ray live three times this album recreates the magic of the shows every time.

The atmosphere of the CD is fantastic and despite it being recorded at a small intimate gig the quality of the set could easily have been performed in a stadium and Ray's voice is faultless throughout.

I wouldn't highlight and tracks that are favourites as they are all fantastic, and don't listen to anyone that disses Swing Your Bag and the Airport Song, they were just a bit of fun and to be fair aren't as bad as people make out, end of the day if you go to see an artist it's nice to hear how they started off!

If you're a fan of Mr Wilson then I highly recommend this album, you won't be dissappointed by it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stunning unplugged CD: Travel through time, 16 Nov. 2003
This review is from: Live And Acoustic (Audio CD)
If you believed that Wilson was just an episode in usic history, then you're wrong. After dealing with Grunge Bands and Rocklegends, Wilson is back with his incredible talent and his first step in his solo carreer is a CD full of special moments -acousticly.
It was recorded in his hometown Edinburgh and sums up pretty good what's important for Ray. You'll get unplugged versions of many Genesis classics such as LOVER'S LEAP or even MAMA, new material as well with SHIPWRECKED and NOT ABOUT US. His former band Stiltskin is also on the menu with a nice memory called INSIDE, originally a big hit for a Levi's commercial. But the most convincing tracks are his own. SARAH and GYPSY and the ballad ALWAYS IN MY HEART. As a nice surprise, you'll find BORN TO RUN and FOREVER YOUNG as all time classics in music history on the CD. In the end, he even gets funny with the bizarre SWING YOUR BAG. Wilson sounds very relaxed and can be optimistic about the future!
Watch out for his CHANGE Album as well!

4.0 out of 5 stars Don't dismiss the man or his music, 30 July 2009
This review is from: Live (2CD) (Audio CD)
To most Genesis fans Ray has joined the vast ranks of ex-Genesis members. However he is also damned by the old hard core for not being Peter Gabriel and by the MOR fans for not being Phil Collins but this is all rubbish, when he took the mike for Genesis it was a bit of a poison chalice and he still did a fantastic job. This album is a great showcase of why people missed the boat and what a great singer Ray is. He tends to be perpetually on tour but unless you live in Germany or Poland you are not likely to ever see him live. So this is the next best thing.
This 2 cd collection is a mixed bag with lots of cover versions (of which there are lots of Genesis related tracks) and quite a few of his own songs demonstrate his own skill and penmanship. Even his "Airport song" which is rather cringe worthy is well worth a listen and after a few hearings I began to find it amusing.
So until Ray remembers his fans in the UK and decides to tour on these shores this is a great way to appreciate a fine musician and his great music

3.0 out of 5 stars Ray shows he's more than just an ex-Genesis singer...., 1 Sept. 2002

Listen to Ray sing shocking songs like "Swing Your Bag" and "The Airport Song" and you'll probably realise why Ray's career has never been as huge as it might have perhaps been.
I can't fault Ray's performance - songs like "Mama", that I would never have thought fit for an unplugged performance - are done extremely well, but alot of the songs away from Genesis related stuff are, well, plain ordinary and boring, and that is perhaps what lets this album down a bit.
Still, considering the majority of the songs ARE decent, I'd recommend picking this up - even if just to sit back and realise that, hey, compared to "The Airport Song", "Nowhere To Turn" is a great song!...
