5.0 out of 5 stars Classic Street Poetry.
Approaching this as a Greatest Hits album is probably the best way to appreciate this album. All the tracks are from JCC's early years, but that does not detract from the fact that this is some of his finest work. 3.0 out of 5 stars Not bad.
I prefer JCC's voice only numbers and there are only a couple on this album. His 'poetry' doesn't need music.

Approaching this as a Greatest Hits album is probably the best way to appreciate this album. All the tracks are from JCC's early years, but that does not detract from the fact that this is some of his finest work. Razor-sharp satire, coupled with an incredibley depressing but very real outlook on life mark out Clarke as the original street poet. Equally passionate, viscious and humourous, he grabs you by the scruff of the neck and thrusts your face into the post-war modern world of Manchester. This album, perhaps more than the highly acclaimed 'Snap, Crackle & Bop', should be an essential addition to the collection.

A classic LP of long-forgotten proportions. JCC joined the list of ones that got away a long time ago. Foul-mouthed poetry over the half-remembered echo of the Invisible Girls versus the nails-on-glass stacatto of his raw live outings. Mr Mediocrity never resided here my hollow friend.
Surprising to see this re-release with extra live tracks then.
Oh yes, they called him the punk poet you know. Haha.

John Cooper Clarke is living proof that you don't have to be a geeky bookworm to be good with words or find poetry interesting. It's excellent that he has been recognised significantly for expanding poetry out to wider audiences who would not even consider the poetry otherwise. This album is as funny as it is clever and an important piece to the puzzle of post-punk culture that Manchester produced as a gateway to a very rich centre of culture for the north of England that has developed over time.
