4.0 out of 5 stars here this band asap, 4 Jun 2005
This review is from: The Note (Audio CD)
This is a great record for fans of hardcore - or fans of music thats alive with energy and passion; there perfect antidote to coldplay and other such coma inducing muzak. Bane almost verge on metal - but in a similar way to faith no more, bane are always original and in the end rather unique. Rather than just resorting to chuga chuga riffs and generic lyrics about 'the scene' bane choose question everything and lyrically are often very revealing and insightfull, even his use of swear words is poetic.
The Note isnt as good as Bane's last album 'give blood' but for me that was a faultless album and one that highlighted how important a force good hardcore can be (and just how weak and pointless a lot of hardcore is). Bane are real, there is nothing false about them, they are not here because of a trend, they exist out of a true love for hardcore music and we need them. If you havent heard Bane i would buy 'give blood' over this but then i would probably end up buying everything of theirs.
'The Note' seems to just pick up from where give blood ended, that is to say there is not a great deal of musical progression -but again every soneg is packed with A1 riffs and the best vocals in hardcore - i mean check out not just his words - but the way they are delivered; its almost like listening to pre-war speech - the way he whips you up into a frenzy. In fact I would say his delivery has progressed as have the bands technicality, but it never gets in the way of the songs and is something that the listener picks up on continued listens.
My only gripe (and its a tiny gripe) is the duel vocals on the final track - which kind of ruins the final song on the album and hence kind of ruins the overall feel of the album (for me) - but really thats me just being picky because at the end of the day Bane have released another amazing record.
For now im happy, this will see me through for another 2-3 years, i mean im not even bored of give blood yet. But for the next bane album it would be nice to hear some progression.
