Top Quality,

Having been an avid fan of Need for Speed Underground on the PS2, buying the DS version seemed an obvious choice (due to the severe lack of games thus far!!). What a choice it proved to be! Racing games on mobile consoles have always been poor (with the exception of Mario Kart) however this game proves that they can be produced for the DS.Slick graphics and gameplay, many of the features of the PS2/Xbox versions of the game with a number of mildly amusing mini games to play with when you`re thumbs ache!! All in all, a very polished game, well worth the £££

Well I got it delivered today from amazon(on the day of release). The graphics are good, for a handheld. On a small screen the dark does make it tricky though. You start off with a choice of 2 cars a volkswagon amd a nissan, and the handling on them is crap, that is where it takes me to gameplay, handling of the car is the most important aspect to a racing game to me and it is rather difficult, as you get more points you can get better cars, but it is a bit hard winning with a car that has crappy handling, but with enough persistance it can be done. Then there are extra mini games in there and you can paint your car whatever colour you like and add your own touch as well like have your name on the bonet.

I already owned Mario DS but was wanting another game. I settled on NFS:U2 because I had the game for the PC and had enjoyed it immensley and I found it to be one of the best racing/driving games around. I found the Mario DS graphics good and hoped for the same or better quality for this game. However, I think that the gameplay graphics are very poor and spoil what could have been an extremely good game.I cannot help but compare the DS to the PSP and this game just does not match up to the quality of the PSP games. I would have also liked the 'roaming' facility to have been carried on from the PC to the DS game but unfortunatley it hasn't happened, you just choose races from the menu. The mini games are an addition, but they are nothing great. I mean, keeping the engine temperature constant by holding a lever 'thing' is not exactly thrilling gaming. I also feel the touch screen is under-used. During races, it just shows the race map or nitrous tanks so you do not really use the touch screen, it just displays information. The game is ok, but I hope the Nintendo DS games start to improve because otherwise the PSP will sink this handeld console rather fast. I do not know whether four stars is the correct rating really. On one hand, it is probably one of the best games for the DS and one of the best handheld drving games. But on the other hand, I think the graphics are about Gameboy SP quality and that the game has not fulfilled its potential.

NFS:2 ;The Lowdown,

Right, firstly, out of the few good titles available on the DS, this has to be one of the top choices by most DS users. Gameplay is okay, but for a street-race simulator, it does restrict the gamer somewhat as there is no roaming facility, and landscapes are often scarred by red crosses blocking out unmapped roads. However, good game for mobile gaming system. Not much use of touch-screen, okay-ish mini games, automatic/manual gearing options can make game slightly more interesting. Alright game, have a go.
