Bartok wrote most of these pieces about 100 years ago and, as you may suspect from the title of the CD, were designed to help the young learn to play piano. As a non-musician myself, I find these pieces charming.
Based upon Hungarian and Slovakian folk-tunes, these 79 pieces (27 tracks on the CD) get progressively more interesting as you get further into the work.
Jeno Jando plays these pieces beautifully and is very well recorded. I think it will be worth exploring other Bartok CDs played by Jando

This music is lovely, playful, mostly quite gentle, simple and beautiful. Unobtrusive. Though meant for children adults will like it too! I'm sure it will help purify the soul and maybe give a sense of beauty. Truly, 'Bela' Bartok!!! Buy it now!

Beautiful collection of rhythms - great for kids!
When the CD is on at home, half of the time she tries to pick up and play the tunes on the piano, half of the time she dances on them. :)
