5.0 out of 5 stars Bloc Rockin' Beats (Sorry, bad pun I know).
Britannic art rock good enough to have franz quaking in their boots... Quite simply one of the most exciting and infectious songs you are likely to hear this side of 2005. Kele's vocals have and angst ridden, intravenous quality, backed up with darkly uplifting angular guitars which you cannot help but move your converse clad feet to. To the man who's enjoyment was...

3.0 out of 5 stars Y'know we call 'em 'Street Parties,' here......
Quite a funky little tune, kinda punky guitars with a spooky haunting quality to it, nice beats etc, BUT the major point I would like to make is that the chorus bears more than a passing resemblance to Rich by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, so my enjoyment of this track is a little inhibited as I keep expecting it to break into the same kind of dizzy perfection and it NEVER QUITE...

Kele's vocals have and angst ridden, intravenous quality, backed up with darkly uplifting angular guitars which you cannot help but move your converse clad feet to. To the man who's enjoyment was spoiled by a "passing resemblance to 'rich' by the yyy's", pay no mind - this is a five star track through and through. "I'm on fire so stub me out!"

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome, 2 July 2004

Proof that you should really get into this whole art rock thing, honestly this country hasn't produced a band as good as this for a very long time...don't believe me? just take a look at the CD's you've bought in the last 2 or 3 years and you won't find anything quite as thrilling as 'banquet'... especially from the UK. Bring on the album.

Or something.
Putting genre aside, Bloc Party have cornered a unique niche, and are repeatedly splatting it, by exponentially extruding in a very definite and self assured direction.
'Banquet' will have even the dance-shy members of population jumping around like a flea that has unwittingly burnt its legs by landing on a hot potatoe. Ouch.
Yes, I recommend you get this, prance around, get knackered, prance a bit more, then get annoyed cos you've become addicted, and wanna listen to more.
Verdict: PH-phat with a lush chorus
oops. I got so carried away, i forgot to describe the music in hand. Its kind of guitarry, with a whole load of drums, a good big helping of bass and sprinkled with a topping of fresh vocal.
Basically, this 'aint no salad. Or something.

From the moment I heard this song I knew it was the beginning of somethingspecial. Very few songs raise the hairs on the back of my neck and keepthe standing long after the finish. Funky and gritty with an early 8o'sfeel to it all. Bloc Party should be on your list of bands to watch in2004. Superb.

This band have some great potential, hell some might say they could even save English rock music. Bloc Party and their infectious first single 'banquet' are having a huge impact on the underground scene right now. The song is just amazing and with luck they will go on to achieve greatness

I'm all for a bit of suspense and tension in a song, but that's what verses are for...at least have the common decency to deliver in the chorus! Having said that, I do like this song, but would probably have liked it more if I hadn't heard the YYYs. Can anyone else hear the similarity or is it just me?
