5.0 out of 5 stars Something Different, 1 Jun 2006
This review is from: The First Lady (Audio CD)
Faith Evans has one of the most interesting and best voices in the R&B scene. It has so much character and she can really sing. This album is amazing and the biggest suprise out of all the albums released in 2005. This is not an overly produced album like some of the other artists but something that just focuses on the music. All the songs are good with some amazing tracks- Again is classic material. In the UK she doesn't get enough coverage but should because she possesses just as much talent as Beyonce and can write better than her. Although there is no Crazy In Love on this album. This is slower mid-tempo album with some faster songs. It was worth every penny and leaves you in anticipation for her next album. This was so good that I will be buying all her other albums as a result. Truly Brilliant!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars The First Lady Gets the Last Word, 17 Jun 2005

After three albums on the Bad Boy label, Faith Evans returns with "The First Lady," her debut release on Capitol/EMI. The widow of the Notorious B.I.G., Evans has a bruised and gusty voice that, when armed with the right material, sets her apart from the faceless studio creations that often dominate the airwaves. But as is the case with most divas, Evans is not without her share of personal drama. The lyrics in "Again" are anything but ambiguous: the directly reflect on her recent run-in with the law and prior battle with drugs. "Mesmerized" has a tight groove that recalls James Brown; the Neptunes-produced track "Goin' Out" will find a welcome home in many clubs, and "Until You Came" is a tender slow jam that compliments Faith's voice nicely. Compared to her last three records, the production on "The First Lady" is less trendy and relies a bit more on live instrumentation, but the street sensibility remains. My "faith" has been renewed.
