4.0 out of 5 stars A complete history of the development of the Saturn V

3.0 out of 5 stars Good - but could have been better
The material is good visually but not enough technical information about the Saturn V.
After watching one is reminded that the role of the astronauts was only a very small part of the whole project.
If one of the DVDs had been given over to explaining the technical aspects of the rockets the set would be five star.

4.0 out of 5 stars A complete history of the development of the Saturn V, 22 Oct. 2008

I've seen quite a lot of documentaries about the Apollo space program but nothing that gives more than a brief mention about the Saturn V rocket. This 3 DVD set includes a very 'American' documentary about the development of the rocket, but more interesting to me was the disc full of 60s quarterly reports - short NASA films showing the development of the Saturn every 3 months from the beginning to the end of testing.

Also included is a DVD full of NASA videos of all of the Saturn V launches from many angles, slow motion and from spotter planes as it enters Earth orbit.

If you're interested in finding out more about the Apollo program then this probably isn't the best box set about, but for a more technical insite to the rockets used it's the best I've seen.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Saturn Rocket, 9 Jun. 2009

A few bits and bobs - The Apollo rocket left the pad weighing 3500 tons. 2m 11s later 2/3's of that had gone. As it passed the top of the tower it was doing 70 mph. The noise level at the foot of the pad was 200dB at launch. All mind boggling stuff and this video reminded me of the sheer unadulterated power of these beasts. Jaw dropping!

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful DVD for any Mighly Rocket Fan, 4 July 2005

This DVD shows the all the launches of the Apollo Saturn V. With multi views it is a must for any Apollo fan.
The most exciting part was the Apollo Saturn V F test rocket rolling out to the pad. This was the first time I had seen this material. Note the different paint work than that of the production rockets.

5.0 out of 5 stars Buy at the correct price!, 15 Jan. 2012
This review is from: Spacecraft: Mighty Saturns - Saturn V [DVD] (DVD)
As with all their releases, this set is still available - and at a standard price - directly from Spacecraft Films own website. Despite what sellers sometimes suggest, this DVD is neither deleted nor especially "rare"! Enjoy.

This 3 disc box set is a beautiful reminder for those of us over 50 yrs of age who can still remember the NASA Apollo Space Programme, and the incredible excitement watching the launching of mans most powerful creations, The Saturn V rocket.

The 40 minute documentary on disc one is a disappointment, little is really learnt about the development of the rocket, but from then on the box set comes into its own.

Archive films in beautiful quality showing the roll out of Apollo 8 to its main launch pad, taken from every angle, extreme close up shots of both rocket and launch pad in right up to the various checks once the rocket is ready for launch.

Watching this part of the DVD set, really brings to life what was involved throughout the construction and launch period of the rockets.

It may be of little interest to those not alive during this period of American history, but for those of us, me included, who can remember most of the Apollo era, it brings back incredible memories.

Every Saturn V launch is shown from 8 right up to 17, including Skylab, some of the picture quality is poor, but after all this is well over 40 yrs old, so it's to be expected.

The testing of both Stage 1,2 and 3 of the Saturn V is shown, with extensive testing of F1 and F2 rockets.

This DVD set is expensive for the main reason, in that it's good, and I do not think any other DVD set has brought together every Apollo launch sequence together before.

This DVD set is magnificent, but it must be viewed alongside its accompanying set, Mighty Saturns Saturn 1&1B.

You will then have probably the most enthralling 15 hrs of viewing that space enthusiasts can possibly have.
