4.0 out of 5 stars Nice but hardly essential Ellington, 11 May 2010
This review is from: Will Big Bands Ever Come Back? (Audio CD)
Hardly the best Ellington around, hardly the most clear concept (how did they choose the tunes?), but it's still Ellington... Since I hear the fiddle, I guess it's Ray Nance, I can also hear, I think, Russell Procope, Jimmy Hamilton, Paul Gonsalves....
It's mostly for Ellington maniacs and swing completists (and vice versa)...
It's interesting to hear what will Duke's band do on Artistry in Rhythm, One O'Clock Jump or Rhapsody in Blue, but once you satisfy the curiosity, I don't think you'll be playing this one if you have, I don't know.... Uptown, Blues in Orbit, Afro-Bossa, At Newport, Jazz Party...

BTW, you'll probably get a better bargain than the one listed under this album if you go with Original Album Series... I sure did.
