La Boheme with grunts and blurs!
on 20 November 2012
This recording really captures the atmosphere of the stage performance and Pavarotti sounds wonderful. However, the noisy prompts for the singers are often very noticeable especially in the last act. Mimi's death is punctuated by various grunts and sounds from the prompter which, unfortunately, rather spoil the atmosphere of the final scene. The visual quality is not brilliant, as any fast movement by the performers is very blurred, resulting in an impressionistic mish-mash of colours, especially in the crowd scenes. Worth buying for big "P", but otherwise, it's not a brilliant recording. If you want atmosphere, great, but if it's good visual and sound quality you're after, you might be disappointed.
