An absolutely classic album featuring Sam Brown and Dave Rotheray, together with the rest of the band. Excellent lyrics and melodies, very easy listening and well worth buying for all fans and newbies alike.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sam Brown.... What more can I say, 13 Oct 2005
This review is from: Homespun-Effortless Cool (Audio CD)
This is the second Homespun album featuring Dave Rotheray "Ex Beautiful South - but dont hold that against him" and more importantly the gorgeous Sam Brown.
An album filled with clever lyric folky/pop and Sam's lovely voice.
Without Sam the album would be a bland unremarkable affair. With Sam she brings warmth and affection to Dave's clever lyrics.
Give it a go... I think the first album is slightly more upbeat though.

I thoroughly enjoyed the original Homespun album and this new one is even better.
The Sam Brown vocals really compliment the dry, down to earth but humorous lyrics from Dave Rotheray. The album is a little melancholy at times.. but the humor and style make it very easy and pleasant listening. Not an album to 'boogie around the living room' with (listen to Sam Brown and Jools for that), but a nice, easy and though provoking set of melodies.
If you liked the original then you must add this one to your collection. If you are new to Homespun then get this album and take it for a spin round the block. Its a Classic (same as the car on the cover !).

A summery classic. Bought the Homespun albums in the wrong order, with this one first - it was more than enough to push me back out to buy the first. More upbeat than the first, but still gentle, summery, and with Rotheray's deep, cynical musings gracing each song. Innuendo, humour, sadness, it's all here.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lovely voice and great songs, 4 Aug 2011

This review is from: Homespun-Effortless Cool (Audio CD)
I first heard Homespun when browsing myspace a few years ago. I loved the songs, especially Effortless Cool, but never got round to buying anything by them. I was reminded of them during a discussion with a friend about Dave Rotheray, and was prompted to buy this. I wasn't disappointed. Beautiful songs, reminiscent of Rotheray's Beautiful South past, but not a rehash, sung with a beautiful, lilting female voice that is so mellow you can't fail to be chilled out. Great, summery, chilled out pop songs.
