Pokemon Emerald ROCKS! It's got pretty much everything that a Pokemon game should have...

*sputter* I checked online when I received an odd message at start up, the cart I received was counterfeit! *swears* if you try to trade Pokemon to a proper cart, everything gets wiped!

Pokemon Emerald ROCKS! It's got pretty much everything that a Pokemon game should have...

I'm not here to write a review though, but to say that if you buy this game and the clock does not work (ie, you set it, wait 5 minutes and check to see if it's keeping time), then it is very probably a fake! I have two fake copies of this game- a grey cartridge fake from Korea, and a greeen cartridge one that came (via ebay)from Manchester today (oddly, with a GENUINE copy of Sapphire), which I'm in the process of trying to return to the seller(they are VERY common on ebay, and some of the ads for used ones on Amazon look like people are trying to sell fakes- there are a LOT about-Pokemon is worth BILLIONS of $!) The cartridge should have its own battery powered clock in, so either the battery needs replacing, or there's no clock on the cartridge because it's stolen code on a flash cart(or similar). If the cartridge isn't transparent dark green then it's a fake- if the cartridge is green but the clock doesn't work, and the Nintendo seal on the label isn't metallic gold, and if the writing on the seal is blurry, not sharp, and the label is not on the cartridge straight, then it's a fake- usually these will be masquerading as the USA version (oval Nintendo Seal, code AGB-BPEE-USA).
If someone advertising a used one mentions the box will be sent flat packed, then it's come straight from the printers. Genuine Nintendo games have card inserts in the box to hold the cartridge, and LOTS of documentation- the Trainers guide should be a thick booklet, not just 6 or 8 pages. People selling used games DO lose instructions, yes, but the box should then at least have an insert...

For anyone playing Pokemon Diamond and/or Pearl on the DS, if you try to use a fake GBA Pokemon cartridge in the GBA slot to migrate pokemon to Diamond or Pearl(assuming you've beaten the Elite Four, have the National Dex and access to the PalPark) then the option to migrate pokemon will not appear on the D/P start menu, and your saved game on the GBA cartridge will become corrupted and be erased the next time you play the GBA game! That's exactly what happened to me after playing for about 70 hours on my fake copy of LeafGreen. I'm looking for genuine copies of all the GBA Pokemon games now... and it can be very hard to find them if you don't want to spend too much money!
Please take care not to get fooled, and if you DO, then demand a refund, and report sellers of fake merchandise to the auction/shop site!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible, 31 Oct 2005

Robert Booth "Minty" (nowhere near the moon) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Pokémon Emerald (Game Boy Advance) (Video Game)
This version of Pokemon is what Crystal version was to Gold and Silver- it's the same game but with a few tweaks to the storyline, and many new features added.
The story has become even more epic- Both team Aqua and team Magma are trying to realise their dreams of expanding the sea and the land, by awakening the two 'super-ancient pokemon'- Kyogre and Groudon. And as before, the consequences are dire...
But there is a glimmer of hope- the third ancient pokemon- Rayquaza. As a trainer destined to become the champion, saving the world on the way is a simple task, yes?
There are some minor graphical improvements and alterations- the pokemon are now animated, you and your rival both have different costumes, and there are many new characters and different pokemon to catch in different locations, including an area in the safari zone where you can catch Johto-exclusive pokemon.
The main reason I bought this version, however, was the battle frontier. There are seven different types of arena with extremely varied battle styles, my favourite being the Battle Pike, where you must find a path to the end of the tunnel while braving many different hazards to your pokemon.
But of course, the fact that you can catch Lugia, Ho-oh, both Kyogre and Groudon, Mew and Deoxys in this version did attract me to this version too.
Overall, a fantastic addition to any pokemon collection.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great, 22 Feb 2006
By A Customer
This review is from: Pokémon Emerald (Game Boy Advance) (Video Game)
Pokemon Emerald is for fans of the series who have to own all the games OR for people who don't own the previous 2 titles (Ruby and sapphire).
Emerald is like a happy collaberation of these two titles, as well as having its own new features. It is what pokemon Crystal was to silver and gold and what yellow was to blue and red (although yellow was made to follow the tv series a bit more)
If you already own ruby and sapphire but you can't be bothered playing through either of them again then maybe look into Emerald as it has some interesting plot twists and a little more depth.
If you're just looking for one pokemon game and you don't quite know which to get out of ruby/sapphire/emerald, Emerald is without a doubt the best option. For money and playability.

5.0 out of 5 stars addictive!, 5 Mar 2006

Pokemon Emerald is a fantastic game and I can't put it down. You are able to choose your gender and your name. You'll be able to have a chance to become famous by saving the whole of Hoen. You battle Gym Leaders and capture millions of Pokemon. At the begining of the game you will save your friend Proffessor Birch by battling the Pokemon whom he was attacked by. The rare Pokemon whom you picked out of his bag he will give you to keep. This game was the best game I'd ever played because it's a fun, exciting interactive game and you'll never find anything better.

One of my sons had requested this on his Christmas List, not really knowing what Pokemon was all about, purchased it, he plays it on his DS and has thoroughly enjoyed every minute playing it - conquering and battling, finding and exploring - a well worthy gift!

My son was delighted with this item. Only took 2 days to come to Northern Ireland. Just proves that older type games and consoles can provide unlimited fun still.. Many thanks again.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pokemon Emerald, 1 Mar 2006
This review is from: Pokémon Emerald (Game Boy Advance) (Video Game)
Gameplay - 8/10
Lots of trainers to battle and more 2 vs 2 battles than Ruby/Sapphire. Random wild pokemon battles can get annoying. Will take around 10-15 hours to get to battle the Elite Four, plenty to do after that though.

Graphics - 8/10
Slight improvement, but pokemon animations are a welcome addition. Weather effects are good too.

Sound - 6/10
Some pokemon sound annoying and music can get repetitive

Lifespan - 9/10
Even after beating the Elite Four, there's still loads to do. Battle frontier, new area in safari zone, hidden pokemon to catch...

Overall - 8/10
For Pokemon fanatics or for anyone who has never played a pokemon game before (or ruby/sapphire).

Was really disappointed to find out that this wasn't a real copy, but yet another bootleg. However the game doesn't immediately delete after elite four, you can do the battle frontier.
