5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect edition of wonderful music
I generally favour Henle for my sheet music. The notion of the "Urtext" editions being as close to the composers' original intent, minus the edits and distortions added over the decades/centuries, has obvious appeal (more info on this can be found here - [...]

3.0 out of 5 stars Good price but not perfect
Good price for what it is but it does not contain the C sharp minor posthumous nocturne, which it appeared to from other reviews.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect edition of wonderful music, 4 July 2013
This review is from: Nocturnes - piano - (HN 185) (Sheet music)
I generally favour Henle for my sheet music. The notion of the "Urtext" editions being as close to the composers' original intent, minus the edits and distortions added over the decades/centuries, has obvious appeal (more info on this can be found here - [...]

The fingerings suggested are judiciously placed, and generally to my mind highly agreeable (though of course one is free to ignore them). The page turns are well-judged, the books stay open perfectly on whatever page, and the quality and clarity of the printed music is absolutely wonderful, putting minimum strain on the eyes and allowing the brain to concentrate on the music. As with other Henle editions, there are introductory notes in English, French and German.

This specific book contains the complete set of nocturnes by Frédéric Chopin. They are 21 short, single-movement pieces for the piano, and to my mind constitute some of his finest work (and thus some of the finest work for the piano full stop). As the name suggests, they are perhaps best enjoyed at night - certainly their atmosphere is evocative of that time of day. They range in difficulty from intermediate to advanced, though the hardest are still perhaps not on par with Chopin's most difficult works.

Any pianist should think about tackling at least one or two of these at some point, and this book is the optimum way of going about it. Not much more needs to be said.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great. Clear and Intructive, 1 Aug 2014
This abrsm edition is great because it is clear and instructive like all abrsm editions
It includes:

General notes and notes on the songs at the start;
Contents including Sample of the song, nocturne no. , tempo, opus no. and page no. ;
Tempo;
Notations;
Dynamic marking (eg. forte)

A couple things I would like to mention:
This edition looks older than it is. This has been done on purpose. It is an effect. Not all abrsm editions are like this.
Also, this edition is NOT urtext. This meens it is not the edition chopin wrote himself. On the front it says it is edited by
Thomas Fielden and Harold Craxton. If you want an urtext edition I suggest you use G.Henle Verlag Urtext Edition.

Nocturnes I suggest:

Nocturne No. 1, 2 and 3, Op. 9 No. 1,2 and 3
