First this headphone adds a strong colouration to the music, sounds become soft, sweet, sexy. It is intoxicatingly good for some kind of music. But because of the colouration it doesn't do very well for some kind of music. E.g. if you try to listen to rap with this headphone, the sound is so unbearable that you might be tempted to destroy this headphone as soon as you put it on. The strength of this headphone is for female vocal, the sound of this headphone is soft, sweet, sexy, with a echo.

Because of the echo, watching action movies, the excitement of explosion and sword clashes can hardly be matched.

All is all, if you want a headphone that suits all kind of music with a natural sound, or if you are very concerned about the "correctness" of the reproduction fo the original sound, this is absolutely not for you. If you want to listen to all kind of music with one single headphone, I would recommend the AD series(e.g. ATH-AD900, ATH-AD2000) from the same manufacuturer. The sound is much more natural, and with much less "soft and sweet" colouration than this A series.

But, it you get accustomed to the sound of this headphone, for the right kind of music, you might find it unbearably dry and dull when listening on other headphones.

Also, this is also one of the most comfortable headphones I have ever tried. It is also one of easiest headphone to get a decent sound out of it without expansive headphone amplifiers or other equipments. There are some headphones that are unbearable without a headphone amplifliers. Of course, for the best possible quality out of this headphone, you are still advised to get a headphone amplifier. I would recommend AT-HA20, or AT-HA25D from the same manufacturer, though it might be difficult to get hold of one in UK.

Well worth the price I paid at nearly £100 less than rrp.
They are very big and I wouldn't wear them on the street but they are perfect for use indoors being incredibly comfortable...
The sound when I got them was great and this will only improve with time as they bed in.
I'm not a 'hi-fi purist' and I like my bass - these don't disappoint and they seem to perform well all-round whether my music choice be indie / pop / rock / ambient etc...
My only negative (which prevented a 5 star rating) is that the alluminium sprayed ear pieces are very delicate and easy to scratch if you are not careful but that certainly should not put you off!
