4.0 out of 5 stars GREAT FILM BUT BEWARE...........
This is a terrific film with a great story and a superb comic performance from Al Pacino as a playwright struggling to balance his personal life, the children left to him by Tuesday Weld from different fathers and a broadway show he's desperately trying to write. 2.0 out of 5 stars An okay film
I can't fault the processing and delivery time, but the film itself wasn't overwhelming. I'm glad I bought a used DVD and it cost very little.

This is a terrific film with a great story and a superb comic performance from Al Pacino as a playwright struggling to balance his personal life, the children left to him by Tuesday Weld from different fathers and a broadway show he's desperately trying to write. The problem is that anyone who has seen this film will know that the end scene has been cut whereby shortly after finding out the NY Times review about his show the scene then cuts to his bedroom with the children crowded round him. This is a shame as this scene wraps the film up perfectly and the reason for the 4 stars instead of 5, still unsure why this scene was cut but stick with the VHS version of this film if you already own it.

This movie is fantastic, there are lots of laughs and bittersweet moments scattered throughout a sweet story. The tale begins with Al Pacino as a New York playwright with a son of his own sharing his home with his wife and her four children from 3 previous marriages. These stepchildren view Pacino as their father figure who gives them the attention and affection their natural fathers deny them. When the wife leaves both him and the children to move onto husband #5 Pacino finds himself with 5 little guardians who try to shine reality on his belief that she will return. The middle of the story is both hilarious and touching as Pacino waves goodbye to the three older stepchildren whilst keeping the youngest child, trying to get his play onto Broadway and romancing his leading lady, the latter situation segues when the wife returns and has a tantrum because his life has moved on. For me the real high point of the story is the climax when the three older stepchildren come home to Pacino who then realises that he is the glue keeping the family together not his amoral wife. A must for Pacino fans as he gives a wonderful, hilarious, touchingly paternal performance - and also for anyone who loves a good movie.
