Microset is used to enhance the adhesion of the water-slide decals that come with most plastic model kits. It's simple to use: dip the decal in water and while you're waiting for it to loosen, drip or paint some of this stuff (it has the consistency of water) onto the model where the decal will go. Then lift the decal from it's carrier paper (I use a fine modelling paint brush dipped in Microset for small decals or simply slide larger ones off the paper direct onto the model) and drop it onto the blob of Microset. The Microset will help you to slide the decal into position and when it's jsut right, press it down gently with some tissue paper. The residual Microset will supplement the adhesive that comes with the decal itself and should give a good firm bond.

It's important to use this stuff in conjunction with Microscale Microsol, which, once the decal has set, melts it onto the model to give it a fantastic "painted on" look and ensures that the decal will never lift or peel away over the years.

You should then seal the whole lot in with a layer of varnish (Humbrol Mattcote, for instance)

And for god's sake don't spend £25 on it. It's available for about a fiver elsewhere online or in any decent model shop.

This stuff, especially when used in conjunction with Micro Sol, is just unbeatable when it comes to fitting realistic-looking decals. I have tried others such as Humbrol Decal Fix and setting in Klear - they work okay, but this one is far better imho. For example, I recently built an Airfix Boston MkIII and the wing roundels, applied using Sol/Set, really did look like they were painted on, with the decal showing through all the rivet detail on the wings. Really stunning results. Highly recommended.

This Micro SET can make decal adheres to the acrylic surfaces more tightly but the decal will still look glossy on military models. So this Micro SET should be used in combination with Micro SolMicroscale Micro Sol setting solution # MSSOL for more realistic decal application.

Had a project in mind.
thought this was the solution - no pun intended.
It turned out that there are lots of solutions and the instructions with thsi were limited. I really should have learned more before I started. This didn'e seem to do what I had in mind. Not sure if that was because it wasnt meant to fix the decal like I wanted or I wasn't skilfull enough.
I gave it up as too complicated and the results were dissapointing.
As far as I can see IF you want to make your own decals for models etc the ink jet water slide of decal paper is ok and works but Im not sure if this is needed. I was trying to embellish a mug. but a bigger decal was VERY dificult to slide off and put on the mug. And it wasnt clear if this had to go on before or after or both.
My experience wasn't that positive.
ACID TEST: would I buy it again - no

Can't work without it. Excellent price. Brilliant service.
Life would be so much more difficult without this simple product, mind you only if you are sad enough to make moels for a living.

Micro Set is used to help "SET" the decals onto the surface of the model kit. It provides a slippery air-bubble-free surface. The decal can be re-positioned to get it into place, and helps it conform over uneven surfaces.

Micro Sol is used to "SOLVENT" the decals, i.e., it melts the decal into the paintwork. Once you apply Micro Sol, you have about 3 seconds before it takes effect. The decal cannot be moved so make sure it's in place first.

Use Micro Set first, get the decal in place, then use Micro Sol.

Microsol and Microset are, I think, essential products if you want to get a really good finish on your decals. But 25.00 for 1fl oz bottle? You have to be joking. It shouldn't be more than five or six quid including postage.

Works very well with micro sol and helps set the decal for my Warhammer models, this stuff is a lot more effective than just using water as, just using water the decals often peal off and this stuff has gotten rid of many of the issues I had just using water. I recommend using this with micro sol as these products go hand in hand, also one bottle will last you a long time as you need only a tiny bit of the solution per model it doesn't get used up very much at all.

I've had difficulty for years in applying waterslide transfers to curved or models with rivets. This little bottle is a miracle. But be warned, it does very quickly convert the transfer into a strange looking, flexible facsimile of it's original self. Don't try to move it much or it may be damaged. Give it time to dry and the transfer returns to it's original form but without the wrinkles. FANTASTIC.
