5.0 out of 5 stars Truely Moving, 9 Dec. 2004
This review is from: The Blower's Daughter (Audio CD)
I first heard this about 10 minutes ago on MTV with the video for it. I just sat there watching it and was truely moved. Damien Rice repeats the lines with so much emotion and the cello is soft and plays with soo much emotion.
The tune just hits hard when the female vocals come in and just make you want to weep. The song relates very much to how I am feeling at the moment so listening to it has moved me a great deal.
Buy this single.. infact buy his album. Close the curtains, lie down in silence apart from the sound of Damien Rice.

5.0 out of 5 stars Haunting, emotional and undeniably memorable, 16 Feb. 2006
This review is from: The Blower's Daughter (Audio CD)
The Main Feature: Damien Rice's absorbing brand of stylishly un-styled dirty folk music is well known - and is no better flaunted than in 'The Blower's Daughter'. Appropriately, the song is folded into the opening credits of the film 'Closer'. The two share much: a sense of chaste beauty and of withdrawn sorrow, a sense of hope and of despair, a sense of intimacy and of betryal. Rice's haunting vocal, embroidered by the sombre solo cello of Vyvienne Long, melts into bright instrumentals and Lisa Hannigan's vocals - before just as quickly soaring away on the breeze.

Verdict: Adventurous and grounded in emotional intimacy. A song that will get under your skin if you let it - and I urge you to.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stunning, 26 Dec. 2004
This review is from: The Blower's Daughter (Audio CD)
Like "Cannonball", Damien Rice really doesn't have to make a radio friendly version for people to love the song. It works best in its original state of raw beauty, Heart-stoppingly heartbreaking in parts, and a timeless classic, if a relatively unknown one!

5.0 out of 5 stars A moving classic, 29 Nov. 2005
This review is from: The Blower's Daughter (Audio CD)
A truely beautiful song, heart felt and filled with emotion. Damien Rice delivers his masterpiece with this follow up to the acclaimed Cannonball. Slightly underated upon its release Im sure this will go on to be recognised as a modern classic. Featuring the haunting vocals of Lisa Hannigan, be moved!

This review is from: The Blower's Daughter (Audio CD)
This is such an emotionally raw and haunting song that it has had the opposite effect on me from most great songs - I don't want to hear anything else by Damien Rice because I know deep down that nothing he does can top this. That's how good a song it is.
