4.0 out of 5 stars Invasion USA: Chuck Norris shows the Blues Brothers how to wreck a shopping mall in style.
Another cheesy mid `80s action flick from the King of the action B movie, Chuck Norris. Don't worry about the plot, if there is one the script writers have done their best to cover it up. Another cheesy mid `80s action flick from the King of the action B movie, Chuck Norris. Don't worry about the plot, if there is one the script writers have done their best to cover it up. For reasons that never become clear, a rag tag collective of terrorists have invaded Miami, shooting up everything they can, destroying anything that looks remotely like normal everyday American life. Soon there is civil unrest on the streets and it is up to retired CIA man Norris, armed with two machine pistols that appear to be bionically implanted into his biceps, to stop them. He lays the world's most improbable trap, and the world's most stupid terrorists walk right into it, allowing for a conclusion even fuller of gun fire and explosions than the rest of the film.

A film full of big chases, lots of gun fights, explosions and violence. Forget about the lack of a plot, it's another entertaining hundred minutes of hokum from Chuck. My only complaint would be that he eschews his usual martial arts in favour of blowing everyone away with those machine pistols. He only gets to kick two or three people. Still, it's a great brain at the door action fest. 4 stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolute Genius!, 19 Oct 2009

I really cannot big this film up enough. It is in the same league as Commando. There is no flab in this film. No character, no dialogue, just constant automatic gunfire.

The plot is insane. Random 'terrorists' invade the USA (wierdly gunning down some Cuban refugees on route); it is never explained who they are, what they are doing, or what they want. Scene after scene of terrorists attacking Americans playing baseball, celebrating Christmas, in a church follow. There is one scene where they just drive around a neighbourhood, firing a bazooka into each house!

However, wherever they appear, Norris appears son afterwards and guns them down with a pair of SMGs seemingly attached to his braces. Norris is utterly emotionless, and unfazed by being completely outnumbered by the terrorists, or anything they do. He never looks worried, or even really looks, even when speeding in his pick up truck towards a dozen terrorists firing bazookas (the terrorists always have bazookas in this film).

The film builds to crescendo of lunacy with the National Guard, with about a dozen tanks, in a shoot out in the streets of Miami against about a hundred terrorists. Meanwhile Norris blows the villain out a plate glass window with his own bazooka. And then the film suddenly ends.

Noteworthy is the film's only actress, a sassy reporter, presumably put there to avoid some kind of sexual discrimination claim, who Norris completely ignores.

What's The Story.
A ragtag group of terrorist mercenaries are formed into an army by Soviet agent Rostov as he begins an invasion of the USA, which succeeds.

The only one man can stop the communists from taking complete control of America is Matt Hunter who sets about a series of counter-measures to destroy the invading forces, & unites the remains of the United States Army to fight back on the war of terror.

Timelord Thoughts.
Invasion USA is Directed by Joseph Zito who directed Norris in Missing In Action with a script written by James Bruner & star Chuck Norris that has the USA being invaded by a bunch of terrorists & the only thing that can stop them is Matt Hunter a one man army that drives a pick up truck who is armed with twin machine guns & a rocket launcher.

I couldn't take the film seriously but it is entertaining & action packed & the sort of 80's action film that is so over-the-top & full of macho testosterone with enough gun fights, explosions, tanks, soldiers, terrorists, deaths, destruction, violence, huge guns & rocket launchers to entertain Norris fans for 96 minutes of full on action mayhem.

Norris co-wrote the script & writes a character that allows him to do what he does best & that's kick the bad guys ass which Chuck does brilliantly several times throughout the movie, The script never explains the motivations behind villian Rostovs terrorist actions or builds up any real backstory barring one small sequence about Norris character Matt Hunter who has become a recluse & seeked solace in the everglades.

Director Joseph Zito does a great job directing though & stages several great action sequences that keep coming thick & fast, this film has a huge body count & features plenty of mindless violence & destruction which is what we all want from a Chuck Norris action movie & on a budget of $10,000,000 which was big for 1985 there's a lot of bang for your buck on screen as the film features high production values.

The acting is of average standard, Chuck Norris plays his usual man of few words big on action routine & kicks plenty of ass while Richard Lynch is a decent enough villain giving the part of Rostov a sinister menacing tone but as for Melissa Prophet well she turns up occasionally as reporter McGuire & then totally disappears about 20 minutes before the end?

Overall, Invasion U.S.A. is a typical 80's action film & while it is not as good as Norris classics, Lone Wolf McQuade, Code Of Silence or The Delta Force it's by no means his worst film either as the movie delivers plenty of action which is sadly letdown by the script that has huge plot holes & a incoherent narrative to the plot yet it remains a entertaining Friday night switch your brain off & relax beer & pizza movie.

Timelord Rating.
6/10

This movie is not for a serious movie buff. This is just a movie with a far fetched story line and the acting leaves some thing to be desired. (Chuck Norris has never won an Oscar because Chuck Norris doesnt act). I guess Chucks bullet proof America comes under attack Chuck saves the day with hillarious Consequences.

Chuck Norris rocks.

4.0 out of 5 stars GREAT 80'S (1985) ACTION THRILLS!!!, 30 Aug 2008

A solid 80s Action Thriller - A reasonably high budget, with a cracking pace, and great setpieces!
Not sure if the Invasion (an army of terrorists as opposed to Red Dawn's Russians) can be classed as Sci Fi, but the movie has a little bit of the futuristic thriller feel to it.
More of a straight action movie than martial arts, with Norris relying more on a pair of Uzi machine pistols. One highlight is an absoluteley stunning shoot out at a shopping mall, that would grace any of the Die Hard pictures. Quite violent at times, with a terrorist death toll that matches Rambo! Lots of guns, rocket launchers, car crashes, explosions and a climactic battle involving the US army, and a regiment of tanks!
Good production values, excellent FX and stunts. Tightly edited and directed by Joseph Zito, with performances that are more than satisfactory for the genre.
For fans of Cobra, Stone Cold, Mad Max, Missing In Action, Red Dawn etc.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb, 23 Feb 2009
This review is from: Invasion USA [DVD] (DVD)
I won't write a proper review like others on here. Suffice to say: Baddies create havoc in small town USA. Turns out to be an old foe of "Hunter" (Chuck) who agrees to hunt him down but only after the baddie himself drags him into the mix. What follows is a one man mission to rid the USA of these Invaders and track down his arch enemy.

The best thing about this film? there are many things to like about this but my personal favourite is when Chuck, sorry, Hunter turns to one bad guy after bashing his mate and says "If you come in here I'm going to hit you with so many rights you'll be begging me for a left".

Enough said. Five Stars.
