I'm really pleased with this watch. To me, it's one of those items where everything about it comes together just right and produces a bit of classic.

Looks-wise it's great, if you like this style of watch of course. It looks way more expensive than it is. The case is very thick and solid stainless steel with a chunky uni-directional bezel. The action of the bezel is indicative of the watch as a whole - it turns so smoothly and feels like a precise bit of engineering. The markings on the bezel are only painted inside the engraved parts so the paint won't chip off which is good design.

The strap is really good - easily as nice as a Rolex or Breitling. It's 100% solid stainless steel and has a push-button safety clasp which is pretty slick. It's mostly brushed steel with some polished parts on the edges and at the joins of the links. Looks and feels great, and doesn't pull your arm hair out.

The face is a simple divers design with very bright and long-lasting luminosity. The day date is white on a black background except for Sun which is in red. It doesn't have a magnifier but doesn't need one.

The movement is a pretty standard Seiko 7S26 automatic (self-winding). A self-winder is obviously useful not least because it means you never need to open the case to change the battery. As you may know, opening a watch breaks the seals and they often leak afterwards (especially if you dive) so you have to send them to the factory to get them resealed properly which costs. The other advantage of an auto is that it has a sweep second hand which again says quality. The movement is robust, reasonably accurate as autos go and has been time-tested. It should last for many years.

The whole thing is heavy, solid, smooth and good quality. I'd be amazed if anyone getting this was disappointed.

I bought this watch through Amazon from Class_A Watches . My advice to anyone looking to buy something from them is BEWARE!
Within the first 3 months, the watch stopped for no reason - despite wearing it every day, so the automatic winding mechanism would have been getting plenty of movement. Within the first 5 months, the watch had stopped 3 times. I contacted the Class_A Watches and explained that the watch was faulty. I stated I didn't want a refund, as the watch felt really heavy and good quality, but I wanted a replacement for my faulty watch. Class_A Watches stated if I sent my faulty watch back, they would replace with a new one. After sending the watch back and not hearing anything from Class_A Watches I took the liberty of contacting them to ask what was happening. Class_A Watches then told me they had sent the watch back to their Seiko representative for a new movement to be put in the watch. How long this will take I do not know, but I am now left without a watch having spent a lot of money to buy in the first place.
Awful service from Class_A Watches who promised I would be sent a new watch, but have now sent the faulty one off to be repaired. I will now give them the review they deserve and ask for a refund.

I tried watches from Nite (TX50) and Traser (Commander) which were both returned for refunds as the Nite crown used to dig into my hand (very uncomfortable although the watch was excellent quality but too heavy) and the Traser watch quality was poor (the watch felt cheap and the second hand did not hit all of the second markers around the watch face although the illumination was good). I had purchased these watches as I thought they were good quality and liked the 200m water resistance and night illumination.

With my refund I trawled the net and ended up looking at divers watches for their robustness and water resistance along with good readability and illumination. I found the Seiko Black monster and instantly liked the look of the watch and it had some excellent reviews. The size of the case at 42mm (excluding crown which is offset at 4 o'clock) was ideal as the watch is robust but not massively oversized (my wrist is not particularly large). You know you are wearing it but it is a pleasure to wear. It has some weight to it but it is so comfortable which is a must for me as I like to wear my watch for all occasions which includes whilst running, swimming and weight training. I wanted one watch that does it all, ie that looks smart with a suit which I wear daily, which looks good in casual clothing and can be worn for sports.

I wanted to be able to read the time whilst out at night (mainly walking the dog) and the illumination whilst not up there with tritium does not disappoint. There are some excellent photo's of this watch illuminated at night and it sometimes glows like this picture and is just as good as tritium - but it does not glow like this all the time in the dark though it can always be read.

The bracelets is very comfortable - I have had experience of my wrist being 'in between' sizes of the fine adjustments on other metal bracelets (on the Nite watch in particular) but this bracelet fits exactly like a glove (sized at a jewellers)!!!

I feel I have a bit of a classic here (it appears this watch is a collectable from some forums) and this is a watch that I will wear all the time for every occasion. I have only had it 3 days so far and understand from some reviews that it can be uo ti five minutes fast each month but I can't comment on that at this stage - but for the automatic movement, sweeping second hand, screw in crown, screw on back, luminous markers, hardex crystal, precise bezel rotation, bracelet adjustment for wet suit and quality of the watch itself it's a bargain and I would recommend it to anyone. I can certainly see why other owners want the Orange Monster in addition !!!

I just love this watch, they do an orange faced model of this watch which is just wow.

Size and quality of this watch are first class. If you like chunky watches you wont be disappointed. It says manly. It is a real conversation starter simply because of its size, (colour with the orange one) or quality.

You may think it would be too big, but it sits nicely on the wrist. You can wear this watch all day everyday with a suit or on a building site. Its tough so your not going to worry about marking it. Its easy to read and glows brightly for ages at night.

Quality wise this looks every penny as good as much more expensive watches, its not the sort of watch which is faked so people dont question is it real. The movement might not be quite as accurate as omega's or rolex's but I can live with a few seconds out. If you want perfect accuracy buy a radio linked but you wont get the lovely sweeping second hand you do with this watch.

The braclet is really very good quality solid steel. I know some people say how fiddly it is to resize it to fit, you'll have to take it to a jewellers, but i dont think thats a real biggy.

I think you'll be very happy with this watch for years to come.

Best divers watch I have ever owned and I have had and used divers watches for diving over the past 40 years. High quality, easily readable and the stainless steel strap is the best i have come across in this price range. It looks even better in the flesh than it does in the amazing videos and pictures found on the internet. It looks just as good when wearing out for dinner and I have received many compliments about it

not a bad watch, but if you like big watches then this is not the one for you. I also found the strap to feel a bit on the cheap side i was expecting something a bit more "chunky", overall for the £175.00 price tag i have seen worse. would i buy one for someone else as a gift, properly not.

This deal through Amazon was first class and I am now the proud owner of an iconic, tough and modern classic wristwatch. Whilst the delivery mechanism was a trifle complicated the watch arrived on the date stated by the vendor and was in perfect condition. I would buy from this seller again in the future . Although not to everyones taste this watch is big, bold and brazen and I make no excuses for wearing it as a fun but functional piece of kit. Does what it says on the can - a monster timepiece in terms of value, quality and looks.
