FireRed or LeafGreen?,
By Matthew "Mat" (Ireland) - See all my reviews
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Pokémon Leaf Green (GBA) (Video Game)
OK, before I even write this review, I would like to point out that FireRed is selling like mad. LeafGreen is less-popular, but there are SOME advantages if you don't have a few mates to trade with...OK, first of all, the first releases of FR/LG had Wireless Adapters packaged with them, so there was no need to buy a new one. Story: One day you wake up to find out that your next-door neighbor, Professor Oak, wants to see you. You travel there but he is not there. Eventually, you decide to go into the "Tall grass," but the Prof. stops you and takes you back to his lab. He gives you a choice of three starter Pokemon; Charmander, Squirtle and Bulbasaur,to accompany you on your journey to become the Pokemon champion. During your adventure, you manage to stop the evil Team Rocket, who want to steal Pokemon for their own nefarious purposes. Gameplay: Pokemon is NOT child's stuff. It is one of the -if not-, THE best RPG series out there. The concept is so simple, yet so original. You catch Pokemon. You train your Pokemon. You battle your Pokemon. It is a very enjoyable loop that is just, well... Enjoyable! Graphics: It may sound dumb to put "Graphics" in a Pokemon review, but the graphics are pretty good for a GBA game. Or a remake of an old GB game. They have nice, smooth sprites and all of the Pokemon (well, except for Ditto and Voltorb), have nice, detailed sprites. Differences between FireRed and LeafGreen: Finally, the part you've all been waiting for; the differences! I'll start off with THE most OBVIOUS difference: Both games feature a few different catchable Pokemon. If I am right, this is the list: Ekans: FireRed Bellsprout: LeafGreen Shellder: FireRed SlowPoke: LeafGreen Ryhorn: FireRed (I may be wrong) SandShrew: LeafGreen Electabuzz: FireRed Magmar: Leafgreen Growlithe: FireRed Vulpix: LeafGreen That, I think is the full list. LeafGreen offers "rarer" Pokemon, while FireRed offers stronger Pokemon. Also, I have found that it is easier to develop a good team in LeafGreen at the start of the game, but you will need to wait a while to get a couple of awesome recruits (Magmar, Lapras). So, in my opinion, if you like your main menu font to be red, go for FireRed. But if you like it green, go for LeafGreen. Also, if you would like a Charizard staring at you on the main menu, go for FireRed. While if you would adore a Venusaur looking dreamily at you, go for LeafGreen. It's all a matter of opinion. Final score: 9/10

A bit too green?,
By Beached Whale (East Yorks, UK) - See all my reviews

It's a long game, with plenty to do and see, many islands to visit and battles to fight. My daughter was very pleased when she found that this game has all the Pokemon from the first series (Blue and Red) and unlike the previous games you can migrate these Pokemon onto Diamond and Pearl. This helped a lot when it came to the legendaries. Also, it isn't a game to be completed in a few minutes; there is always something new to do, new Pokemon to catch. Admittedly the graphics aren't as good as they could have been, but so what? It's still a load of fun.

I haven't played pokemon in an age as I never updated my console from my trusty gameboy advance, however when a friend reminded me that pokemon red and blue had once been rereleased as FireRed and LeafGreen I went on the hunt for them. The game is as good as ever, though if you played Pokemon red and/or blue there's not any surprises for you in the storyline. The pokemon selection is the same as red/blue (first 150) but there are some moves that weren't in the original games, and the pokemon stats and leveling syestem has been updated to match ruby and sapphire versions. Also in line with those versions the pokemon now have a personality (timid, happy, ect.) which slightly effects their stat growth, and a special ability (e.g. Pidgy's keen eye ability prevents accuracy loss). I bought my copy through the Amazon marketplace from SamuelUKMedia. It was advertised as cartridge only and good condition. The item arrived well before Amazon's estimated delivery time, and well packaged. Aside from the lack of box/instructions (no problem since pokemon has in game instructions) it's in near perfect condition.

Fake,

It's a good looking fake, but still a fake. Right from the start the sound stopped when saving, but it came back after it was done. Now parts of the sound disappear completely after every time I save and I have to restart my DS for it to come back. Highly annoying.Even though I have gotten alot of fun times out of this game I don't trust it, I can only hope that nothing else stops working. Only advice I can give is be extremely careful when buying old GBA games as alot of them are fake and the quality is often poor. Do your reasearch about the game and you'll avoid falling into traps with, for example, wrong box/game art etc.

Arrived very quickly and is exactly the game I was looking for. I have always loved the pokemon games since I was a child. This game felt like a nice trip down memory lane and really in a good way! I enjoyed all the newer looks on the old story line that really made my childhood.I ordered it used from "We_aint_got_no_money" and they did a great job of giving me a real copy in a timely manner. I have ordered from them 3 times now and have never had any issues with them. They even gave me a free individual case to store the game in. If you are worried about fakes, I recommend ordering from these guys, They have never done me wrong. All 3 games (LeafGreen, FireRed, and Emerald) that I ordered from them, came quickly and with nice matching cases. No instructions, but pokemon games tell you how to proceed within the game, so no worries there. Overall, I loved this game and would recommend it to other pokemon lovers.

I bought this game (Pokémon Leafgreen GBA) together with Pokémon Firered and Pokémon Emerald. My boyfriend is a really big fan of all the Pokémon games. He played them all except for those 3 because he never had a GBA. Now that he got one, I bought these 3 games and he loves them, He's really pleased with it and finally he got the opportunity to play all the games. I really recommend to al the Pokémon fans.
