If there is one thing that we should all have in common in this life, it is the love of laughter and the appreciation of those that induce it. Very few people that I have ever seen made me laugh more than Dave Allen, and it was with great sadness that I learned of his passing just a few days ago, particularly as I had only recently bought this DVD and had naturally expected to enjoy it in happier circumstances, and write this review without the use of past tense. But here goes: Dave Allen was unique in that he could perform both stand up and visual comedy with equal cutting edge genius and precision. He was the principal pioneer of what later became termed 'observation comedy', dissecting and poking fun at everyday human (and some non human) idiosyncracies, and basically reminding us that, given a balanced perspective and the natural fullness of time, humour can be found in pretty much anything. For examples of his excellent visual sketch work 'Vintage Dave Allen' is also recommended viewing, as this DVD focuses purely on stand up material. Whether the subject be telephones, timepieces, junk mail or walking the dog, the classic Dave Allen slant is as priceless as it unmissable. The world will be a far duller place without this true comedic legend.

One of the excellent observations made by Graham McCann in his edited collection The Essential Dave Allen was that Dave Allen always drew his humour from a real lived life, so when he started ageing he didn't grow out of his material like some comedians did, he just found new humour in the ageing process. So what we get on this wonderful DVD is not an old comic doing old gags, but a real human being making truthful but funny observations about the here and now. It's fantastic stuff, and sounds as current and pertinent today as it did when first broadcast. Very special, very funny.

I remember growing up with Dave Allen comedy, and was not dissapointed to find that he is just as I remember on this DVD. The only thing that dissapoints me is that there is not more of his work on DVD!!! His outlook on life is great and had me laughing from beginning to end.

This video was extremely entertaining. The wry observations on life will strike a chord with the 40+ age group and older, and in particular with parents of teenagers. I laughed so much that my eyes streamed. It is a pity that there are so few videos of this very funny man. Even my teenage daughter was amused. The compilations, which include sketches, are in my opinion not nearly as good.

Firstly it is such a pity this DVD is no longer being produced as it is a much finer tribute to the legend that was Dave Allen than the "Best Of" that is available.

This DVD finds Dave Allen doing his standup routine in which he goes over life subjects such as getting older etc, All in his unique style, I can promise you will will be laughing from start to finish.

Sadly due to its lack of availability the price is pretty high, But to be honest it is well worth it and you will not regret it.

Dave himself is brilliant but the DVD seems short, I couldnt find the extra footage or anything extra perhaps its just me but it seems a little overpriced for what it is..Ive found it a bit cheaper at a local retaier and Ive dug out my VHS copies of his off air series competing my collection of a man who to me was a master of timing and before PC the funniest man on the television.

Was really pleased with this as I have always found Dave Allen funny since I was at school. It was in many ways different to the sketches etc. I remember but this man had a knack of portraying life with immense humour and I really enjoyed it.
