Positives: Every Christmas carol you can think of, sung by a variety of very good choirs. This is excellent value for money and certainly puts you in the seasonal mood. It sounds like most of the carols were recorded in cathedrals too, many with organ accompaniment, which gives the voices that authentic echo of chilly Christmas services.
Negatives: As it is a compilation of pieces sung by different choirs, the voices and musical accompaniment (organ/orchestra) do change from carol to carol. Also, I'm sure I spotted a couple sung with American accents, which was quite odd, as this is a quintessentially English collection.
Very glad I bought it though.

I bought this album as a last minute purchase at a supermarket check-out and rate this as my favourite Christmas album ever.

I'm a big fan of christmas albums of all kinds, be it Slade or traditional, and this is such a delightful choral work covering the better known and slightly less well known "classical" Christmas carols. The choirs of Guildford, Westminster, St Paul's and Exeter catherdrals are excellent. This is an album to explore and love. I have a 6 month old daughter and I'll be playing this to her as part of the annual Christmas morning tradition every year.

If you like Christmas or like choirs or just a good traditional ambience - then look no further. This is just plain fabulous!!

I won't call this a cheap selection - I'll call it an economical one. You get a lot for your money - every major Christmas carol you can think of, and a few you possibly haven't heard before. It's quite chocolate boxy, it's quite bland, it's inoffensive. This is not the greatest selection of choral music around, and it's certainly not something you'll play at any other time of the year. But for background musak, to help you conjure up Christmassy spirit at home or in your workplace, it's a very effective and very economical choice. Not to be played at full volume, but something you can sing along with. You get what you pay for - this is Christmas trimmings, not a full scale Christmas feast.

Christmas carol favourites beautifully sung by cathederal choirs. I love listening to traditional carols whilst decorating the tree and cooking christmas treats. A must buy for traditionalsts.

I recently noticed this download on Amazon and it was just what I needed. This recording has four choirs on it, the choirs of Guildford Cathedral, Westminster Abbey, St Paul's Cathedral and Exeter Cathedral, but what caused me to buy it is because it has the Guildford Cathedral Choir's arrangement of all six verses of See Amid The Winter's Snow. I do have this carol on a King's College CD, but unfortunately, only verses 1, 2, 5 and 6 are present. The Guildford Cathedral album is very special to me, as my Uncle George used to have it and it may, for all I know, be still in his collection, assuming Auntie Wilma didn't get rid of his vinyl material, but I digress. He would often play me the Guildford Cathedral album on Christmas night, whilst the rest of the family were watching TV in another room and See Amid The Winter's Snow was a great favourite of Dad's when he was alive. If it's traditional carols you're after, sung by excellent choirs, then I urge you to buy this download. Other carols included are In Dulci Jubilo, Ding Dong Merrily On High, While Shepherd's Watched (another Guildford Cathedral one I needed) and there's an excellent arrangement of Angels From The Realms of Glory. This will be the first album I'll be playing on Christmas morning this year.

I have been on the hunt for the perfect Christmas album for years and this is probably the closest I've heard. The other reviewers here are spot on with their comments. I don't mind the pop compilations but you will have heard them all a zillion times even before Christmas Day rolls around. When it comes to traditional music this is hard to beat.

this wonderful range of beautifully sung carols is a must have for playing at christmas. from Westminster Abby to St Pauls Cathedral, the choirs form the perfect winter accompinament to all the festivities. Great for background music when decorating the tree, having guests over and cooking all the christmas treats on the big day.
