3.0 out of 5 stars Stylish and sounds good but some annoyance with the functionality, 29 Jun. 2007

As far as looks go i'd agree that with a previous reviewer that it gets a 5/5, plus it's really quite small (compared to my old one anyway). As can be expected from Philips, the sound is also very good with 'wide angle' speakers with a surround sound style.

However there are a few niggles that just bug me. Firstly, the dial on the radio tuner is far too sensitive - move it just a fraction and it will change station. The second is more that is specific to me i think. If you're anything like me and enjoy having music playing while you drift off to sleep, the alarm in the morning will still be the CD (since this is the last thing the clock was set to). There is a switch on the clock where you can choose FM/ML/Buzzer/CD which you must set before you go to bed. So you can only wake up to one or the other. i.e. you have to select the buzzer to have the alarm wake you this way. This is personally annoying since it didn't matter what you listened to last thing at night on my old clock (radio or CD), the alarm would still be whatever you selected it to be. It just seems strange that the use of the CD and radio are not independent in the way that you want to set the alarm and wake up.

Also, despite the description stating that you can wake up gently to your CD, this will only happen if you set the volume low before you go to sleep. You can not preset what volume the alarm should go off at and there is is no gentle increase in volume.

All in all, a little disappointing on the functionality from a well known brand. If you don't want to fall into the same trap as myself or other reviewers, you should search for the manual on the internet to make sure you know exactly what you are buying.

2.0 out of 5 stars A little bit disappointing, 7 Jan. 2007

On the appearance front, I would rate this 5 star, less so on the performance front. Firstly the separated speaker function that they push does little for the sound (the speakers are very close to each other and small). But it's the volume that I was most disappointed with. For some reason the volume on the CD function is very limited - certainly can't be turned up loud - which I guess is OK for waking up in the morning. You get what you pay for, and on the value front, this is good value for an alarm clock with audio features.

2.0 out of 5 stars Great at first, but then..., 21 April 2009

This is a neat little box unit, sits great on my night table, clear clock so you can see what time it is when you are suffering from insomnia. BUT i really wanted to wake up to my music not the stuff on the radio which is more chit chat than music. Waking to my favourite CDs was great at first, pain that you have to always hear the first couple of songs only, but you can work around that by burning new CD mixes. Now 1.5 yrs later not even brand new CDs play. I have resorted to using the radio function but the dial is wierd with all the stations so close that it is hard to choose one accurately. I wish i could find a decent mp3 player radio (that doesn't need an ipod) cos i'm over the radio chit chat.
Oh and yes you hear buzzing when the player is on. Sound clarity is not all that bad though for the size and price.

The details are wrong for this item . It's a LED display not a LCD display ( quite bright). Also you cannot vary the brightness of the display. I quite liked it but my girlfriend didn't .... hence it's being returned.....
