This is my favourite recording of Satie. Choice pieces. No romantic flourish or over-emoting here. The pianist is not (unlike some recordings) dictating to us how wse should respond emotionally to the music. Rather, Yitkin Seow simply and plainly states with a maximum restraint the simple, transcendant, dreamy strangeness, the dynamic calm of this extraordinary music. By all accounts Satie (a fan of Dada art) wanted his work to be of the 'other' - quirky and outside the orthodoxy, "Furniture Music", sometimes humorous, up-ending convention. This interpretation is a masterpiece, like Zen, a perspective leaving maximum room for the listener to imagine. Outstandingly beautiful.
