The story goes that Rufus had such an inspirational writing period that he wrote enough material for not one, but two new albums, hence Want One quickly followed by Want Two. This shows through in the quality of every song, and Rufus is one of the few artists today who understands the importance of track order in an album- The lively Little Sister providing welcome relief in between two gorgeous ballads of Peach Trees and The Art Teacher. All in all, a wonderful album.

Quite amused by the Kool and the Gang fan's review. Maybe his friends should have looked at his cd collection before recommending Rufus.

Anyway, I have recommended Rufus to many of my friends, purely because he blew me away when I first heard him (Want One). I believe that Want One is a better place to start listening to Rufus, but this too is a truely exceptional album. Stand out tracks for me are "The one you love", "Little Sister" and "Gay Messiah". Want two highlights how good a songwriter Rufus is. Seeing him live demonstrates just how good his voice is.

I thought 'Want One' was good, but this is excellent! It's funny how these songs get into your brain an' you get enjoyment every time. Three tracks stick particularly come to mind. The cuteness of 'Little Sister', the heart-rendering "The Art Teacher' and the exuberance and outstanding musicality of 'Old Whore's Diet'. Truly fantastic album.

Buy this now - this album is amazing....
I only got into Rufus Wainwright about three or four months ago. I listen to plenty of music & was amazed that someone with such talent passed me by, for so many years. I can't believe he isn't selling bucket loads of records. I originally bought "Want One" when I heard a track on the radio ("Want two" is his fourth album)& fancied hearing some more.
When I first heard Rufus, I just couldn't work it out - but after three of four listens it starts to make sense. The important thing is that you have to stick with it! I also had a friend playing "Movies of myself" on a continuous loop - thanks Steve!. I then ordered "Want two" from the States. I wasn't dissapointed with this album either. The guy has an amazing voice (difficult to pin down - there is something of Thom Yorke - with some Geoff Buckley thrown in?).
The songs themselves can only be described as truly beautiful (very emotionally moving). Bits of the music is like a film score to the best ever (lots of strings etc), the flip side being the fantastic acoustic tracks (listen to Gay Messiah). The best thing to do is buy the album & have a listen!
After you listen to this album, go out and buy "Want one" - you won't be disapointed. (listen to Movies of myself to ease you in).
I am off to see him in the next few months & cannot wait.

here is a prime example of a fantastic musician and song writer ignored by the "pop focused" media.
more original and beautiful than james blunt but given no media attention.
shocking the way this artist is treated.
an absolute "tongue in cheek" genius

Buy this album if you're tired of hearing the same old stuff in the same old style, just repackaged by different artists. This guy has genuine talent. The Wainwright-McGarrigle pedigree is in evidence. Rufus Wainwright has to be one of the most interesting new artists to appear in years.

I wish I have discovered Rufus Wainwright a long time ago, he sings from his soul and his songs are nothing like anything else around...he is unique! 'Agnus Dei' is the hauntingly beautiful first track on this latest CD. Rufuss' voice combined with the evocative lyrics on 'Want One' will not disappoint. Rufus is one of a kind...

Let me just say this album is beautiful. And worth it for "The art teacher" alone. Please do yourself a favour and just buy it.

I bought this cd purely on the basis of loving the previous "want one". Rufus grows on you, you have to listen carefully to the lyrics, which are brilliant. But I thought I had a damaged cd because the first track, Agnus Dei starts out sounding like a record needle that is scratching, rather than a melody or rhythm of any kind. I tried the cd on my desktop computer, then my laptop and finally my stereo system. Still thinking the disk was damaged, I cleaned it. Then I bought another copy. Guess what? It's meant to sound that way, but hey, you never know!
