Before I first heard Maiden, I was very much of the opinion that metal was a genre of music that I would never get into. Oh, how wrong I was!
This DVD provided the perfect addition to my growing collection of CD's and DVD's of the bands I love. Very few bands put out anything like this - almost as if they want to be apart from the fans. Maiden aren't like that. They've kept close to the fans since day one. This is a spectacular DVD with tones of live footage, documentaries and more info than you could comfortable twirl a mic at. The interviews with previous members of the band give an interesting insight into how close the band came at times to complete ruin. Of course, we all know that it all turns out for the best in the end, but you can't help thinking the odd "Now if they'd done this..." thought. The live footage is great, especially at The Rainbow - though I agree with Adrian Smith; he shouldn't have worn that waistcoat!

4.0 out of 5 stars Kerrangggggg!, 16 Mar 2006

A quick test (and be honest)…. Did you ever surreptitiously grow your hair so that it covered your school shirt collar? Have you ever headbanged… alone or with others? Have you ever owned a denim jacket … and sewn a patch onto it? Did you used to read Sounds magazine from cover to cover? Did you ever frequent The Marquee Club / Hammersmith Odeon / Newcastle City Hall / Nottingham Rock City / Birmingham Odeon (delete as applicable)?
If you answered yes to one or more of the above then you will love this DVD. I bought it especially for the hilarious episode of the early 1980s Janet Street Porter produced pre-cursor to ‘yoof’ TV, the legendary 20th Century Box. This little gem from the vaults of LWT is introduced by a fresh faced and positively skinny Danny Baker and charts the emergence of a brand new youth music …. The New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM) of which Iron Maiden were the leading lights. Featuring unintentionally (at the time) hilarious interviews with the leading air guitarists of the day it also has some dynamite footage of the band performing at now sadly defunct Marquee Club in Wardour Street. Aside from this gem (which is worth the cover price alone), there’s a whole heap of other stuff that will raise nostalgic smiles all round. A history lesson for all who like their music LOUD.
