4.0 out of 5 stars A little high-maintenance, but worth it!
Like most people who played it, I loved the XCOM series of games, which included UFO: Enemy Unknown, Terror From The Deep, and XCom Apocalypse. Although Microprose and the Gollop brothers have now moved on to other things (see Laser Squad Nemesis), there is a large fanbase on the web of turn-based squad level strategy games. Cenega's original UFO:Aftermath game...

2.0 out of 5 stars Would have been great if they'd finished it
This has the potential to be a great strategy game. If you've played and enjoyed the XCOM games, this offers a very similar mix of base bulding, squad management and tactical combat elements. It is a mammoth game, offering weeks of gameplay. I can only give it a qualified recommendation, however as it was obviously rushed out by the publishers before the developers...

4.0 out of 5 stars probably Best UFO Game, 17 April 2006
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: UFO: Aftershock (PC DVD) (Video Game)
In Aftershock the developers tried to combine the best aspects of all the UFO/XCOM games and add a little more.

Base building that had been removed in "Ufo:aftermath" is back. A little bit of resource management has been added, just enough to make people who like it happy, but in such a simple fashion so as not to scare people off who couldnt care less.

With the addition of Cyborgs and Psyonics players have many more options when building squads and it gave developers the chance to add a splash of diplomacy.

Like most UFO games there are points in the storyline when the difficulty level seems to change abruptly... still the game is sadly extremly easy and each new opponent ceases being a challenge after a couple of missions.

Missions are all refreshingly short meaning there is no need to save during missions and allowing people with a busy life to quickly finish a mission.

Sadly just like aftermath "Ufo: Aftershock" is bugged. The game is prone to crashes especially towards the end of the game. Still I must say it was one of the best games I bought in a long time and after "Ufo: Aftermath" which I had found rather disappointing made me love the UFO/XCOM series again.

2.0 out of 5 stars Buggy as hell, 16 Nov 2005
By A Customer
This review is from: UFO: Aftershock (PC DVD) (Video Game)
Well, I installed the 1.03 version (shipped version, unpatched). I managed to play for 20 minutes. Now I cannot play at all! My PC locks up on the intro movie, and eventually, if I can even get into the game, it just freezes and locks up within the game. It's so bad I can't even complete the first mission. Very very poor. This product should not have been released in this state. And before you ask, I have the latest graphics drivers and operating system updates. And a very modern graphics card setup too. I even have the recommended drivers as tested by them.
Poor effort Cenega, get your Quality control teams to do a better job...

5.0 out of 5 stars Flawed masterpiece...the patch will make it even better, 27 Oct 2005
This review is from: UFO: Aftershock (PC DVD) (Video Game)
A near perfect squad strategy game with global statergy, resource management and role playing aspects. A true successor of the X-COM games and a moody, exiting game to play.
A little buggy in places but the patch is on it's way and promises to fix all that.
