This review is from: From New Orleans to Chicago / Champion Jack Dupree and His Blues Band (Audio CD)
This is terrific stuff from the great barrelhouse bluesman Jack Dupree, surely one of the greatest blues singers of all time and a terrific pianist too. for pure rhythmic drive, there's nobody to touch him. There is a great variety of stuff here from hard driving numbers like Caldonia and Shake Baby Shake, to sublime slow blues like When Things Go Wrong (a number recorded many times by Dupree). There are also great unusual numbers such as the Cajun-style Oh La La and the wonderful Down In The Valley, on which Jack plays guitar better than lots of guitarists. There is not a single duff track on this great CD; an essential purchase for any blues fan, or any music fan come to that.
