4.0 out of 5 stars Seems fine, shame about the online game
I just got this yesterday, and I've already burnt the midnight oil playing it. As a Scrabble-addict, this has not disappointed, and I have not experienced any of the poor performance the other reviewer mentioned. In fact, quite the opposite - I also own Scrabble 2003 for the PS1, and I stopped playing it because it was so slow. This version is lightning fast on my PC...

1.0 out of 5 stars scrabble 2005 VERY DISAPPOINTED
To say this game is disappointing is an understatement. Graphically the game tiles are small and unimaginative and the game did not recognise the word "him".

Come on ubi-soft after a great 2003 game how can you put your name to this poor example of this classic game.

I found the Scrabble 2005 Edition to be little better than the 2003 version, being almost as slow and unresponsive, and the manual rack-shuffling is much more difficult than before. I'm not interested in the ambience of background graphics and music, and I'm certainly not happy with the foreign (USA) dictionary used. It's about time we had a British version using the English (UK) language.

I bought this because the other reviewers said it was an improvement on the last (2003) edition.

Unfortunately it still uses an American dictionary and does not recognise some 'English' words. It is also a bit of a coincidence that it always seems to have all the right letters for an eight letter word utilising the triple word scores at least twice in every game!

Good if you are American, not so good if you are English.

This version is lightning fast on my PC (2.8Ghz, 1Gb RAM) and I've no complaints.

Or to be accurate, just one. The online game was part of the reason I bought it. However, yesterday although there were 5 people online, the servers weren't allowing people to connect and today, I've tried repeatedly and no-one has been on. Such a shame - I hope other people buy the game and make the online game worth playing.

Until then, I'll just have to learn the obscure 2 letter words to put up a fight for the computer's hardest opponents..!

The bottom line - highly recommended for Scrabble fans.

I have owned and enjoyed this game for a year now, although not an expert player, I like the fact that I can choose my level of play, the graphics and tiles are very clear and I don't have any complaints at all, except that having recently upgraded my PC to a laptop with XP software it doesn't work any more!

My husband has also tried to load it onto his computer (also XP)and he has the same problem - it will not load in properly. Has anyone else come across the same problem?

3.0 out of 5 stars Empty lobbies, 6 Feb 2005

The interface and menus are a big improvement on the last version. They've gone for the format of the chessmaster series, with training options, championship games to follow, and an option that allows rated tournament play.

The online option is disappointing, only because no-one's ever home. I've logged on regularly but there's never anyone else crowding the lobbies ready to play. Playing the pc just isn't the same.
Not a bad purchase, but not great.

1.0 out of 5 stars Scrabble 2005 disappoints, 31 Oct 2004

After having enjoyed playing the excellent original pre-Ubisoft version of Scrabble I have found this version to be extremely disappointing.

Although the recommended system requirements are well within the specifications of my PC many of the program functions are extremely sluggish. The program is more complex but does not function as well as the original.

It does not instantly show potential score as new letters are placed on the board as in the original. This has to be requested and only comes up after a considerable delay. If invalid words are placed it does not tell you which word/s were invalid. In general the program is not as slick or straightforward as the original.

This popular classic game deserves far better than this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great game for all levels of play, 5 Nov 2004

I found this fairly easy to use and l like that you can be up against all levels of player, from novice to expert & master. Haven't found the game slow at all, quite the contrary.

1.0 out of 5 stars Cynical programming, 21 April 2006
= Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Scrabble 2005 (PC) (Video Game)
To start with, this game seems everything you could want from a Scrabble game - fast, good graphics and even a good choice of opponents. Ahh, there's the rub!
You see, no matter what level the opponents start on, even beginner, they get better and better giving you less than a one in three hope of ever winning.
This is done by a highly biased letter selection, you will often get 4 or more of the same letter whereas the computer will get a good range of vowels and high-score letters.

I recently tried to play this version but could not get it to load past the opening page. I'm also using XP and am very disappointed - especially as Ubisoft happily advertises this product to be Windows XP compatible.

Two thumbs way down because I can't even play it :-(
