I saw this televised as a series here in New Zealand and was in the audience at one of the live shows (Christchurch.)
The live excerpts are typical of those you usually see of Connolly: Very, very funny, but you generally lose a lot "in the edit."
The man's stagecraft is superb, as he meanders around several stories, but never loses the original thread, often returning to deliver the punchline as long as fifteen minutes away from the original set-up without ever "losing his place."
Television tends to prefer neat little soundbytes and Conolly's frequent use of expletives must often leave the editor with very little to work with!
The fact that he bothered to perform to some very small audiences in remote locations (International music acts take note!) does get airtime here, but most enjoyment can be derived by the unique travel guide he presents in this series.
He never relies on cheap laughs during these informative excursions and always shows the utmost respect for the people and places he visits.
As an ex-pat British man living in New Zealand myself, I learned quite a few things from Billy's wandering around.
If you want to see something other than the usual "Lonely Planet" style backpackers guide to this beautiful country and its proud inhabitants, with the added bonus of some ageless, ribald, Scottish humour - this is thoroughly recommended.
The simple message behind the "Too Old to Die Young" tour this series is based around is "Grow old but never grow up" and the genuine, childlike, enthusiasm he displays toward his subject matter, as he tours the country on his custom trike seems to suggest that Billy Connolly continues to live by this edict. Thankfully!

I only own this DVD of Billy's, i really do need to buy more. I love New Zealand and have visited it several times due to various relatives, but never fully explored the beautiful scenery it holds. Quite a place, and its explored brilliantly by Connolly, his accent perfect for story telling and even better for his comedy. Absolutey fantastic laughs, has me in histerics still after the about 8th time of watching them. Couldn't recommend this more, seriously one to buy, such damn good fun. It's also a laugh having at several points shouted out to myself, i've stood there, literally. Also a couple of tracks on the 2nd DVD worth a look at.

I own a couple of Billy Connolly's world tour series on DVD and i think this is one of the best. The scenery of New Zealand is amazing and Billy's story telling and commedy is the perfect compliment to this, i would highly recommend this 2 disc set, i know i have watched it many times over now and will continue to do so. Enjoy!!

an excellent and funny view of a beatiful country with memorable scenery and fantastic history which billy puts over in his own style,after watching this you wont be arguing about your next holiday

The beautiful scenery of New Zealand is wonderfully illustrated in Billy Connolly's own interpretation - using pictures and stories and interviews.
History - ancient & modern - of the people and their country is brought to life, interpersed with little clips of his show at various locations.
The viewer ends up with a greater understanding of the Kiwi and the Land of the Long White Cloud, while enjoying a good laugh at Billy's risque jokes at intervals.
A very watchable DVD.
Made one want to visit NZ: well, I did subsequently!

Thsi is such a briliant DVD I would recommend it. Not only for the Billy Connolly show, but of the beautiful places & scenary in New Zealand. Love it.

Billy does an awesome job of showing the other side of life in a country. His NZ tour is awesome!!!!

Toured New Zealand last year, North and South Islands. Billy has picked up some of the best bits which are stunning and fun, there is much more to see and enjoy. See this and you will see what New Zealand has to offer... as for Billy ...a man with a great sense of humour and wanting to see all the bits of life. Long may it continue

The difficult talent of integrating fact, with the classic Connolly theatre is enjoyable. The locations are stunning and his ability to 'act from life' is a rare talent.

I purchased the dvd to add to our data input before a holiday in New Zealand next spring. I was hoping for a good overview of the sights and scenery with the added attraction of a little of the unique humour from Billy Connolly. The humour did not disappoint but the sights and scenery were a little underplayed and from that point of view it did disappoint. The DVD did, however, provide a couple of hours of outstanding humour and in particular the snapshot of new zealand life and beliefs from the very unique perspective of Billy. All in all a good purchase but did not meet all of my, probably unrealistic, expectation of a scenic travelogue!!!
