5.0 out of 5 stars A pleasing round-trip through the story so far

The trend of adding one or two new tracks to a 'greatest hits' collection continues here on rock gods Placebo's latest venture, and their first stocktake of the output from their first four albums is very solid indeed. Placebo's long-standing fans will undoubtedly want to pick the CD up for the two new tracks, 'Twenty Years' and 'I Do', both of which fit surprisingly snugly next to their familiar standout tracks like 'Special K' and 'The Bitter End'. Brian Molko's songwriting skills are such that every song on this collection is a worthwhile listen, and if there is any downside it's that you'll be well and truly pooped after rocking out around to this CD around your living room with the headphones turned up to eleven for over an hour. If you've never heard any Placebo before but you've been told they're really good, this collection is a great place to start. Highly recommended.

Well here it is at last. The one thing all Placebo fans have been waiting for, 'Once More With Feeling' combines all of Placebo's singles together in a kind of greatest hits collection. There are some classics here such as 'Nancy Boy', 'English Summer Rain' and 'Bitter End'. Its a great collection for anybody since new and old fans alike can appreciate this. Oldies will love all the good ones together, while new fans can see Placebo's finest all in one fire packed CD. Worthwhile for sure!

5.0 out of 5 stars A singles collection for old and new fans, 15 Sep 2004
This review is from: Once More With Feeling: Singles 1996-2004 (Audio CD)
So I was a bit skeptical when placebo announced they were releasing a best of. It had all the warning signs of a band that is about to split. But on hearing the new songs, it has become clear that placebo are around to stay! 20 years is a brilliant song, almost reminiscant of the 2nd album I feel. And although I Do doesn't have the same lyrical quality, it is a still a good song. There are nearly all the singles on here (Missing Come Home) which span their career and achievements, and I'm sure it will earn them a few extra fans!

One thing that strikes you about this album is the amount of first class goth/emo singles that this band has produced. There are at least 10 songs on here which should be rated 5 stars in their own right. This album puts accross Placebo's unique, distinctive and slightly meloncholic sound perfectly and is a must for all of their fans or anyone who has ever liked their singles. Althought there are too many highlights to mention individually highlights include "The bitter end", "Special K" and "Bruise pristine." All the songs are catchy, pop influenced emo and rock songs that will have you singing (and dancing in some cases) along after a few listens. This is a great introduction to a great band and is a great place for anyone new to the band to start off with.

4.0 out of 5 stars Skin crawling, pure morning, 29 May 2009
This review is from: Once More With Feeling: Singles 1996-2004 (Audio CD)
This enchanced edition of there greatest hits offers a rounded trip through the years of one of the most exciting bands around. There influences, such as the Pixies are clearly worn on their sleeves and the occasionally dark lyrics (see The Bitter End) sound as fresh as ever. The only problem is the horrifically bad version of "English Summer Rain", which is actually an excellant song and a personal fav but the version on this album sounds like they've chopped it up and splattered samples of it all over the place, its the equvilent of grabbing a knife, slicing pieces of the Mona Lisa of its Canvas and sticking them on in random places!

I bought this a while ago - a great buy but you need to be a fan of PLACEBO to enjoy it as I would say its not for everyone. However I loved it so I would recommend it to any one.
