This review is from: Repeat To Fade (Audio CD)
At the moment Siobhan Parr is a little known name, I guess that this time next year that will no longer be the case.
Siobhan is a 19 year old singer song writer and repeat to fade is her first album, but you could quite easily be listening to a woman 10 years her senior who is on album number three. Ever song on her is exquisitely constructed and sung with one of the most amazing voices around at the moment. Many female vocalists have been hailed as the best thing since bread in slices (Joss Stone, Amy Winehouse, etc) but Siobhan is a cut above these. It's not often that a voice can convey such emotion, it's like listening to something between P J Harvey and Kurt Cobain.
The one downside to this album is the production, who ever did it should not be allowed behind a desk until he learns how to listen to music, never mind produce it. They have over worked just about ever last second on this long player to the point that the varied styles are somewhat blurred. The sheen that has been put on top of the music weighs it down somewhat, for example one track, The Woman I am, has a dirty blues Keith Richards-esque song straining to get out, but the production never quite letting it.
Production aside, this is a startling debut from what must be one of the biggest new talents around at the moment.
Roll on the second album.
