Whitehouse's first album is a great statement of intent, but it doesn't quite deliver. According to the sleeve notes this album was intended to introduce aggression and force into electronic music, but while the squealing distorted synthesisers and shouted vocals are extreme in concept by being completely devoid of any musical content, compared to the extremes Whitehouse would later reach this debut album seems positively restrained. There's still some good stuff here, and this is interesting listening, but it's obviously the first steps of a band on a mission to go further than anyone had before. The only real stinker here is the title track, which is just silence - surely this joke was old even back in 1980?
