1.0 out of 5 stars The definition of frustration
When I first got it, I loved this game, and recommended it to friends. A week later, I've told them all not to bother: this game is a dud.
Why did I love it? The first time you race, it's insanely exciting. You zoom through city streets that are rendered to a reasonably high quality, in cars that look, well, ok. You progress reasonably quickly, and the future seems...

This game is one of the best racing games I've ever played. Midnight Club 3 Dub Edition is a racing game with the added bonus of being able to "mod" your car. The game is officialy licensed by DUB magazine which specialises in car products. The game is set out into three main modes. Arcade Mode where you can race without restrictions and Career Mode where you travel across three cities San Diego, Atlanta and Detroit. You are a street racer trying to make a name for yourself. One of the good things about the game is being able to start with a good car. The Career Mode is extremely fun largy due to the structure of it. You can go anywhere and choose which race to race first. Races differ from City Races for hard cold cash to specific club races meaning only one car type can race eg. Luxury Sedan. The variety on offer is another plus point for the game, the modding options are litreally endless from the colour of your rims to a nice spoiler on your boot. The X-Box Live mode is largely dissapointing not because it's not necisarily good but because there is never anyone online. The game also boasts 50+ cars and you can mod them all if you do so desire. The gameplay is a winner for Midnight Club 3. The handling is fantastic as you feel you are in control of your car at all times. One slight niggle is the dark surroundings crashing into a wall at 180mph isn't very fun. However as Midnight Club 3 has a gentle difficulty you can ease yourself to the front of the pack with a last second victory. Sweet.
Plus Points
+ Endlessly fun racer
+ Loads of cars and options
+ Decent Soundtrack
Minus Points
- Clunky menus
- Cops
- Graphics could be better
Verdict
All in all Midnight Club 3 Dub Edition is one of the best games I've ever played. A lot of people will be put off by the gentle difficulty being a little to easy and it hasn't got the cars of say Gran Turismo. But that dosen't matter because Midnight Club 3 gets the key fundementals right and it's extremely fun. 10/10. Thankyou for reading. John Mitchell.

5.0 out of 5 stars Utterly brilliant!, 19 Jun. 2005
This review is from: Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition (Xbox) (Video Game)
Firstly lets answer the answer the question on everyone lips, is it as good as, better, or worse than NFSU2, which is an exellent game itself.
Well, the answer, is yes. It is better. It's not like compairing GTA:San Andreas to the Heman game, but it is better.
Absolutly everything is better. In parts, only slightly better, but it's all better.
The handeling is better, the car selection, the customisation, the music, everything!
OK, so basically MC3 is set in 3 different cities: San Deigo, Atlanta, and Detroit. You play a newbee on the racing scene, and have to work your way up the ranks. The driving is very solid, but just a touch too twitchy. But there are certianly enough cars to keep you happy! Tuners, muscle, SUVs, Trucks, luxury sedans, super cars, choppers, sport bikes, everything you could dream of. There are Maclarens, lambroughini's, porches, everything that you've ever stopped to look at.
And the best thing is you have complete freedom to rip these cars apart, and then build the car of your dreams. Imagining 28inch spinning rims on a hummer lowered until it scrapes the floor, with pink flashing neon? Why not! The customisation options shove dynamite up NFS's ass and lock it in a submarine! There are limit less body, wheel, colour, vynal, everything options! Although sadly thuis game lacks the free-customise mode of NFS, so you cant just experement, cause it's gonna cost money.
The music selection is great, featuring an astounding selection of hip-hop, dance, drumnbass, rock and reggee.
My only problem with this game, is that it is very difficult, and sometimes unfair, but dont let that stop you from buying it! Class all-round!

5.0 out of 5 stars Midnight Club 3 Dub Edition ( X Box ), 27 July 2005
This review is from: Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition (Xbox) (Video Game)
What can l say? Fun, fun, fun. This game is an absolute riot on the senses. Easy to pick up and play for a novice and challenging for a hardened gamer. Ace sound and graphics, mad handling and a superb customization garage for tooling up you're motor. This alone makes the game that extra bit special, watching you're tricked out motor on the replays really enjoyable. The game just keeps getting better and better the deeper you get into it. The best arcade racer l have played since Need For Speed Hot Persuit 2 on the PS2!

5.0 out of 5 stars Midnight club 3: PROBABLY THE BEST RACING GAME AROUND, 20 Jan. 2006

I have played Midnight Club 2 and for a number of years it had been the best game in my collection. However, I recently purchased MDNC 3 and this game has blown me away. Its fast and intense and only your best performance will do. This game will bring the best out of you and once you've finshed a stage, you will get a great feeling of satisfaction.
This is a must-have for your collection and will never dissapoint you. Graphics, game play and sound effects are top notch.
Don't delay any further.

5.0 out of 5 stars Street racing, but much, much more!, 9 Dec. 2005
This review is from: Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition (Xbox) (Video Game)
IF you think well I've seen that film 'The Fast And The Furious' and it was total rubbish, then don't go basing this game on that. This game looks at street racing from a different perspective.
Basically, you are someone's son/daughter. You're not sure who this is until you have been playing for a bit. The idea is, that you need to work your way up from rock bottom, to U.S champ.
And if you had midnight club 2 and thought it was to easy, then you will like the fact that because of your status against the other racers, you are always faced with a challenge.
With so many cars, engine parts and modifications available, you will find yourself hooked, and will never get bored.
An all time favourite for practically anybody.
5 stars, and thunbs up!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good game but looks are avergae !, 28 April 2005
This review is from: Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition (Xbox) (Video Game)
If there is one thing the gran turismo series have shown, is that a racing game needs crisp clear graphics. It's just common sense. Being typically Rockstar, the crisp clear graphics aren't something they are known for. Just look at the grand theft auto series of games to see graphics where never high on their agenda. Okay, Gta has a large amount of different styles of gameplay in it so you would have to compromise on the games looks as the games are packed with tons of content. So it is with a bit of a surprise to see how fuzzy MC 3 looked when I loaded it up. After all, all you do is race a car real quick, tune it up and that's about it really.
Okay, let me get to the other bits first. I've played say 6 to 7 hours so far and you can see the game has a lot in it's favour. Great handling, check. Fantastic courses, check. Tons of cars and bikes and a ga-zillion ways to improve your vehicle in the garage, check. 3 Different cities to race in and different modes of racing to really spice up the game, check. Great, it should get 10/10, but then you realise this is a Xbox game in the year 2005, and you wonder why it looks so fuzzy and very PS2'ish. For a second I thought I was playing the PS2 version, with all it's jageddy edges and fuzzy visuals. Graphics certainly isn't everything, but it sure helps. Your car's detail and over all look is average to good, just enough detail to pass, but then you look at the traffic and you notice basic square boxy style vehicles with almost no detail. Is it important ? Probably not, however to a degree yes. You want to feel you are in a real live city, so maybe a bit more detail would have been nice. Yes, you have pedestrians, although you can't hit them as your car goes right through them, like they are holograms or something. With the lack of detail on the cars in traffic, and the holographic peds, it does make you feel like corners where cut here, surprising as you think that the game isn't in the complexity of a Gta game. Alright, it's a racing game and these things aren't that important, but one would like to think some time in the future we can have more detail in a car that you just crashed into. Xbox 360 maybe ? ...I guess with a developer of Rockstar's stature, one would expect a bit more.
So this is a fine game, although I have so far been hung up on the lack of decent graphical looks, and it does matter when you think this game competes against Burnout 3, which looks fantastic.Overall, a quality game that just comes short in the looks department.

5.0 out of 5 stars Much better than midnight club 2, 16 April 2005
By A Customer
This review is from: Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition (Xbox) (Video Game)
To say the least, i didn't like midnight club 2 at all and returned it for a refund after 2 days. So i wasn't expecting mc3 to be any different - how wrong i was!! This is a huge game, with a great deal of speed, licenced cars and a reasonable soundtrack. The online element is very good with lots of options and no lag (so far).
Comparing this to the brilliant burnout 3, i have to admit this isn't quite as good, but it comes a close second.
The only negative thing i have to say is that the graphics are not as good as other racers i.e. project gotham 2 and burnout 3. BUT graphics aren't everything, so if you want a very good arcade racer then check this out

5.0 out of 5 stars Fast, Furious and Fantastic, 8 Jun. 2005
This review is from: Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition (Xbox) (Video Game)
The saying 'never judge a book by its cover' does not apply to this game. As soon as you receive your shiny new copy of Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition you know you want to play it... The screenshots alone, on the back, leave you BEGGING to play this game! When you first put the disk in your Xbox you will not be disappointed...
After a stunning introduction/cut scene, you will be greeted by smart, polished menu screens. There are four main modes: Career Mode, Arcade Mode, Race Editor and Xbox Live™. (When you first get the game, you may want to give Arcade Mode a try, just to get used to the controls.)
CAREER MODE
After an introduction to career mode, you need to buy a car, with very limited funds... You will then be thrown into a race to 'prove your worth'. After this you can roam around San Diego to your hearts content, racing street racers, club members and competing in tournaments, to help with your progress. Obtaining money is a challenge, but as your bank account gets fatter, you can spend more and more money on cars and parts... After beating certain racers, you will unlock new cars or parts, from Hummer's to Mercedes' and Apexi parts to Pirelli tyres. The two other cities, Atlanta and Detroit hold even more races, and with such large cities, you never feel like you are doing the same race twice. Bikes can also be unlocked and purchased at hefty prices, but they do provide extra speed... You can also compete in club races, but only certain kinds of car/bike are allowed. All in all, the Career Mode is an exciting, fun mode and you feel a real sense of achievement progressing through the game, as it gets more and more challenging as you advance - this game is excellent, and will provide quite a challenge for pretty much ANY gamer...
ARCADE MODE
Arcade Mode allows you to do all the things you can do in Career Mode (and more!) but you select the types of race and vehicle. You can cruise, race, paint and even play tag! These modes also come with multiplayer options, where you can race on a split screen. Arcade Mode is a great way to brush up on your racing techniques, or just to have a bit of fun with friends.
RACE EDITOR MODE
The Race Editor does exactly what it says on the tin. You can edit existing races or make your own. You can roam around the entire city (any city - San Diego, Atlanta or Detroit) with a suspended camera, placing up to thirty one checkpoints at any places on the roads. Once your track is complete, you can make the rules, test it, race it, and save it. A nice little feature, but by no means the best part of the game...
XBOX LIVE™
Like with most Xbox Live™ compatible games, the Xbox Live™ mode enables you to play the game 'in question' against other people anywhere in the world. Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition is no exception. Xbox Live means you can play all the Arcade Mode features online, as you may expect... As well as Xbox Live, there is a Networking Mode, where you can link up two to eight Xboxes and play a System Link game. (I've not actually tried this with Midnight Club 3, but I have linked seven Xboxes together to play Halo 2... I imagine it would be just as fun with Midnight Club 3!)
The final conclusion is that this game is a HUGE hit with all my friends and I. Hours of excellent and fun game play is available along with ULTIMATE customization. Five stars is the limit, but if it were possible, I would award this game more! BUY IT NOW!!!!!
