5.0 out of 5 stars How Long Till Volume 2?, 5 Feb 2005

This review is from: A Manual Dexterity - Volume 1 (Audio CD)
A Manual Dexerity is the debut solo album by Omar Rodirguez, and shows his talents as a musician off to their fullest. In The Mars Volta, Omar works within the confines of a band, and although that band happens to be one of the most forward thinking and outthere groups around today, it still limits Omar's options. A Manual Dexerity is Omar at his most creatively open, with sparse and haunting soundscapes and atmospheric hauntings. Omar, with help from some friends including his TMV band mate Cedric Bixler and musical genius John Frusciante.
Mixing copious amounts of EVERYTHING, this album fullfills its promise as an experimentation into the mind of a creative genius, still only just realising his potential.
I can't wait until the second installment.

4.0 out of 5 stars A manual dexterity..............., 7 Sep 2004
This review is from: A Manual Dexterity - Volume 1 (Audio CD)
This album is mainly instrumentals that are all much more wierd than anything by The Mars Volta (The band Omar is in). THey are lengthy and atmospheric, strange , and sometimes amazing. One of the songs is an old fashioned sounding latino song. Something I did not expect. On the last track, Cedric Bixler Zavala, also from the Mars Volta sings, and this is the most Mars Volta sounding track.
If you like the Mars Volta, you'll probably like this - but not as much.

Great CD, with some fantastic music and great composition, but sometimes it goes too far for me. Consider one of my favourite peices is Zappa's "The Girl In The Magnesium Dress" from The Yellow Shark... I guess I just didn't get all of it. But the bits I do get, just brilliant. Spine tingling.
